Alternative to giving the bride away

Shannon, on May 17, 2019 at 1:46 PM Posted in Wedding Ceremony 0 4
I want my granddaughters to “give me away”. They adore their future “Poppa” and he them. Initially he was going to propose by asking them if he could marry me when we were all together. Even though we couldn’t be he still called them and asked them! But he is having issues with the verbiage “giving away”. Any thoughts of what the minister could ask the girls instead of that?

You could call it a blessing rather than a giving away. "Granddaughters, does your grandmother have your blessing to marry future Poppa?"

Awe, I love asking for their "blessing" that is so sweet. I wish I could say I had something better but since I read Jessica's comment, that's the only word I keep thinking of.

The minister doesn’t have to ask them anything. They can walk you down the aisle and have a seat. I think being “given away” is an antiqued tradition anymore with older couples getting married, second marriages, etc.
