Alternative to dj at your wedding?

Willem9, on January 28, 2020 at 12:43 AM Posted in Planning 0 3

Dear all,

I have recently asked my girlfriend to marry me (luckily she said yes) and now the fun part starts: the wedding preparations!
We have been thinking a lot about how to schedule the day. Most weddings in Belgium (where we are from) are like this:
- you first have a reception of about 1.5 hours.
- afterwards you have a dinner of about 2.5 hours. This is the most intimate and hence smallest group.
- finally, all friends that were not invited to dinner but that you do want to be part of your wedding, join for the 'party', where a DJ blasts loud music for 4-6 hours.
Now, me and my fiancee are not that much into partying into the wee hours of the night. That ship has sailed. Nevertheless, we do not want to finish our wedding after the dessert. So we are looking for some kind of performance/act as alternative to the dance party with a DJ. This could be something like a saxophone player or a coverband, or... (duration: approximately 2 hours).
Unfortunately, our experience with these kind of acts is very limited and so is our creativity. But luckily I've got you guys! What acts or performances would you recommend? We are looking for more of a 'loungy/afterwork' vibe where people can enjoy the performance, but where at the same time people are still able to have a chat with each other.

Your input is extremely appreciated, as we are looking to (here comes the cliché) make this the most beautiful day of our life.

Thank you all in advance,

Willem

We have an acoustic guitar performer who sings at a lot of our parties in the summer (we have a beach house and often throw big bashes). We had him at our cocktail hour and he was also the ceremony musician. People love him, he plays music you can dance to as well as sit around and chat while enjoying the music. Could you find someone like that? We actually found in while out after work at a bar.

Saxophone guy, piano player, guitarist, solo musicians work well for what you’re looking for, or a band that has more of a chill vibe to them. You can always go out of the box unique and hire contortionists/ dancers/ any performance act to wow the guests and give everyone’s feet a break

Hey there, Willem9. Congrats on your engagement Smiley smile

I too think a cover band, jazz band, or solo musician such as an acoustic guitar could be perfect for the vibe you’re looking to create. If you wanted to add some other form of entertainment as Maggie mentioned, you could look into a magician, dancers, photo booth, etc.

Where will your wedding be? In Belgium or here in the US?
