Altering dress from mermaid to fit and flare?

Melissa, on April 28, 2016 at 11:00 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 3

Hello! I recently bought my wedding dress at RK Bridal in NYC. I had tried on about 8 dresses total and this is the one that I fell in love with because it looks so pretty. However, it was difficult to walk in at the store - the sample was several sizes too big and was clipped tightly around my body to make it fit properly. I do realize its a mermaid dress and that's how it's meant to fit, but I didn't realize how important that was until now that I'm thinking about walking all day, dancing, etc, and I'm freaking out. The good thing was that it was a plus size dress (long story) so the size that I ordered is technically 2 sizes too big for me. I am hoping that since there's like 4 inches extra in the dress that I'll be able to get a slightly looser fit from below my hips down. Has anyone had alterations like that done before, altering the original fit/style? The style is Allure Woman W371. Thank you!

Oof. When I read the subject line, I was going to say something like, "haha, good luck" because you'd have had to work with seam allowances. Even then, you could probably get it a little more comfortable to walk and sit in, but it should be easy-peasy since you ordered it larger than you needed.

I as well want to know if this was successful. Did you get your mermaid to fit and flare?
