Altering a trumpet to fit more like a mermaid?

Marley, on October 29, 2018 at 12:41 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 8

Hey, y'all! I went dress shopping yesterday and fell in love with this lace, v-neck trumpet. The only thing I wish was different about it is that it was a little more fitted throughout my hips and thighs. If anyone has had something like this done before, advice would be great!

You can definitely do that I would just caution you on the cost. Your alterations bill plus your original dress may be out of your budget. If that's not an issue, I would talk to a seamstress to bring your vision to life!

Are you able to wear a different slip so the bottom flares out more without having to pay to alter the actual dress? My dress is sheath but I bought a mermaid slip to puff it out a bit at the bottom and it worked well. The slip was only $79 at David's compared to paying to alter the actual dress!

I've got the slip and it puffs out the bottom, I just want the dress as a whole to be a little more snug around the booty and thighs for that "wow" factor lol. The people at davids bridal seemed to think a more dramatic slip would look funky, because the dress isn't build to flare too much.

We got this one on super sale, so I'm okay with spending a bit more. Thanks SO much! It's comforting to know it can be done with the right people.

My dress fit kind of like that when I tried it on, but alterations naturally made it more of a mermaid. She took it in a lot around my butt and now the back looks amazing. So yes, this is definitely doable. If you want to add something underneath to make it poof out more, that'll probably cost you a bit more.
