Alterations?

Erin, on July 19, 2019 at 7:51 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 6

My dress came in today and I picked it up. They didn't have me try it on in the store (seemed weird to me, but oh well). I brought it home and tried it on when I got upstairs. As expected, it's way too long, even with the 4" heels I'm planning on wearing. There is also an unexpectedly large amount of boob space xD. It's a size 2, but it feels so huge. The dress stays up, and only shifts a little bit when I dance around in it, but considering it's a ball gown, the dress is pretty heavy and I'm worried about it constantly having to pull it back up. My wedding is still a ways off, how long beforehand would you guys recommend getting alterations done?

People typically start alterations 3-4 months out.

Yes give at least 3 months especially because of the schedules of seamstresses. I would call them and find out when they suggest you bring it in. Dont stress. That's what alterations are for.

    Hi there Erin!

Yay, this is so exciting Erin! Did you have to wait long for the dress to come in?

It’s best to allow 8-12 weeks for ‘normal’ alterations to be completed. So as the PPs mentioned, 3 - 4 months is typically when alterations begin. It is important to take in to consideration the seamstresses workload, so I would definitely have a seamstress found and consulted with before this point.

Do you have a seamstress you plan on asking to work on your dress?

It took about 3 weeks to come in. I started dress shopping early because I’m indecisive and wasn’t expecting to find one so quickly xD.

Ive never had to go to a seamstress before for anything so alterations is uncharted territory for me. I don’t even know where to begin on looking for one.

The bridal store where you got your dress may have recommendations for local seamstresses or have their own one in-house you could work with.

Alternatively, Yelp is really helpful for finding local seamstresses. You can check out previous customer reviews and reach out to a couple for some pricing! Definitely worth checking Yelp out Smiley smile
