Alterations

When did you/will you book your first dress fitting? I was told 6-8 weeks before the wedding but I’m curious to see what everyone else is doing!

My first dress fitting is August 27th for my Oct.16th wedding. So I guess that’s about 6 weeks

Okay thank you. I originally thought 6-8 weeks wouldn’t be enough time but most people have told me it’s more than enough time!

I booked my first alterations appointment 6-7 weeks before my original date. I was nervous that it wouldn't be enough time, since I'm looking for a few major alterations, though now that we've postponed to 2022, I'll probably do alterations around 8-10 weeks prior to my wedding day.

I booked mine about 2 months before, and she told me that was too far out. I didn’t believe her so that’s when she did my alterations. She had them done in a week I think, 2 max!
She is an independent seamstress who works out of her home so I’m sure business with a physical location and multiple employees might take longer.
Also I got mine done before thanksgiving and Christmas for my January wedding and must have gained holiday weight because it was tight and I had some back fat 😳 so just be careful if they get done a significant time before the wedding.

Yes I don’t want it done too early but also not too late. I think I will schedule my first fitting around the 8 week mark to be safe

I started mine 7 months before the wedding which is definitely not necessary, but I was glad I did because I started the process shortly before COVID arrived in the US. If you're able to start sooner, and you expect to be around the size you are now, it's a good idea to do so in case there are any changes in COVID restrictions that make it harder to get appointments.

Oh wow that’s early! And I want to lose a few pounds before I start the alterations so I’m starting my diet back up tomorrow.

I started calling around 3 months in advance and the seamstress I called was adamant we schedule as soon as possible. She Intends to have the major alterations done about 3-4 weeks in advance, so that we still have time for any last minute adjustments. If you’re going with an independent seamstress versus doing it through the bridal shop I think it’s a little different. There’s boo harm in calling early to ask different places/people how long they would need.

That’s what they told me. I wanted to go in this month before school resumes but they would go more than two months out.
So my alterations appointment is at the end of September.

Yeah, my weight is fairly consistent, so it worked out and if you literally only lose a few pounds I'm sure you'd be fine, but if you expect to lose a lot of weight, it's better not to start yet. My sister in law lost more weight than she told the seamstress she would and it caused some last minute drama.

I had my first alterations appointment at the end of June but that was because of our now postponed reception that was scheduled in September. But she's also doing my wedding dress for my October DW.

My wedding isn’t until March so I think I’ll be fine. That’s why I’m starting my diet today, months before the wedding. I will probably schedule alterations like January?
