"Alterations on a lace dress will be super easy!"

KDS, on March 25, 2016 at 8:55 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

Said no one ever expect a pushy bridal salesperson. I'm kind of laughing at my extreme naivety when the sales associates told me that they can do amazing things with alterations and it's super simple to take of the lace and hem the dress and take in the bust....

Yeah, my alterations are going to cost $400. It's $180 to hem it (intricate scalloped lace on the bottom), $160 to take in the bust (they have to shorten the boning), $20 for bra cups and $20 for the bustle.

I sure there are cheaper places, but this an independent seamstress with top reviews on wedding dresses. But she's going on maternity leave soon so I have to start my alterations next week!

The back of my dress has intricate beading on a sheer piece of fabric. I DREAD how much those alterations will cost!!! The bottom is all tulle, so it's literally just a cut for that.

Please say this is a joke! My dress will need about the same alterations as yours if it fits the same way it did in August. And the boutique told me the same thing that the way a Sophia & Camilla gown is made is simple that alterations won't be much.

When I contacted a bridal seamstress out my way and asked when she wanted me in for my first fitting and found out I had a full lace dress she said to get in their five months out...

My dress is also all lace. It just came in last week. I was honestly expecting to pay around $600-$700 for alterations, so when they told me it would be approx $350 I was super happy! Same deal as yours, taking the lace scalloped bottom off, hemming it up, putting back on, taking it in, and lots of boobie cups. All the boobie cups! I need them!

I personally paid a lot less than that, but from what I've read on here, $400 is average/low.

My dress is ALL lace. Alterations will be around $350-400. My dress also has a lace scalloped bottom that needs to be removed in order for it to be hemmed. No boobie cups for me, but it needs to be taken in on the sides and around the waist. I will also have a 4 point bussel.

"alterations won't be much" isn't the same as "the alterations will not be expensive"

I got crazy lucky. My alterations ended up being $155 through the bridal shop. Of course, all I needed were the straps taken in, the bust eased a bit, and a bustle put in.

I am super lucky, the bridal salon INCLUDES alterations. And my MOG full length, beaded bodice 3/4 sleeve, full skirt was under $200. My fdil was wishing she had tried this salon before she found her dress. She went one place and chose the second dress but it made her cry happy tears so I just keep reminding her how perfect it is for her.

They told me the same. Oh and making a size 10, a size 6. Alterations were $400

So I went in today for my first fitting and I either Iost weight in 4 days or putting in breast cups changed the fit of the dress. We now have to take in the corset 1.5 inches and tighten up the dress around the lower back. So another $70!!

But I'm super happy about it. The dress actually looked way better today and hugs my curves a little better. I think I might have been a little bloated last week because the dress was super tight around my hips last week and wasn't tight today.

I was lucky that I didnt need mine hemmed at all. I was told that according to my measurements that it would fit perfectly when it came in and it wouldnt need alternations. (corset back) Well.. the top was way too big and had to get taken in! I probably could have ordered the size down. I think its a racket Smiley winking lol

My bustle was pricey too. I remember being sick to my stomach about how much the alterations cost. The good news is that 4 months later, I actually can't remember how much I spent Smiley winking

Maybe I'm bursting some bubbles here but I actually think that's a fair number. Alterations are balls expensive. Mine were $300 for my lace dress and she did about the same work you got done, but she was an independent seamstress. I think that's probably par for the course at a salon.

......... They said it was easy. Not cheap? I guess I don't get it did they try to say that because it was so hard it was going to cost more?

I think it's more that they were just so nonchalant about it. "Oh it's no big deal!!" She failed to mention that while it' no big deal, there's a pretty hefty bill.

My mom asked about hems on lace dresses every single place we looked because I was really gravitating towards the lace, I'm 5 foot nothing, and she couldn't wrap her head around how a seamstress could hem the lace. The consultants all described the process as "oh, the seamstress cuts the lace finish off the bottom and just sews it on a bit higher and removes the excess. We both realized there was no "just" about this process and that it sounded like a lot of work. My dress came with the option to do a custom "hem-to-hollow." The consultant mentioned it would likely be cheaper in the long run because I wouldn't need the dress hemmed. Sounds like she was right!

I just had my first fitting and it's costing me about $350 to take it in, add cups, and add a bustle. With my shoes the hem is perfect, which saved me an additional $200! My dress is all lace as well so I was super nervous about the cost of hemming and I'm glad I don't need it hemmed.

I'm barely 5'4" and even with 2.5 inch heels, we still have to take off 2 inches. I wish I could walk in 4.5" heels, but I would be miserable.
