Alterations Before and After

Any brides out there willing to help me out with before and after pics of your gown alterations? I start alterations tomorrow, and I'm super nervous about being able to articulate what I'm wanting to change/fix. Part of my problem is that I have a short torso and wider hips. I want my dress to really hug my waist and then come out and around to hug my hips well too, but right now it's bunching a lot around my hip area and not snug like I want around my waist.
I'm not even sure it's possible to take in the sheer bodice? It also doesn't "cup" my butt like I want it to lol. Plus the boob area just seems weird right now. It's like it's flattening my boobs instead of pushing them up lol. I'm feeling pretty discouraged about my dress and the way my body looks in it right now and not as happy about it as I was when I tried on the sample (a size smaller) in store back in August. Any encouragement, pics, and advice/experiences much appreciated!!! Pics for reference (the only reason it isn't bunching in the hip area for the bottom is because I'm arching my back and shoulders back, trying to stretch my torso lol):

I'm also fixing the straps in alterations, but I'm not so worried about that. I'm hoping that'll be an easy fix!

I think your dress looks amazing, but don't worry - they can probably help you with all of the issues you have. I can show you the before and after of her letting out the zipper on my dress, which was the major change:

And after. This second one has the hemming done, she added cups, and the side is released a little.

Thank you!! Yeah, it's hard to picture, but the sleeves in the first pic are tight as well. In the second, she inserted elastic along the straps so I could actually move my arms lol. So they really can do some magic with alterations! I was nervous too because I had issues with that sheer back buckling, but she was able to fix it no problem. I think most brides have problems when they first try the dress on because it's just a generic sizing, but alterations can make it fit perfectly.

I had the same dress as Kathryn. I have wide hips/butt and I had to get the hips taken out 2 inches on each side. I'm also only 5'1, so I had to get the dress shortened. I had on 3 inch heels during the ceremony and keds during the reception. I also did not add cups. You are more than welcome to look at my BAM to see more pictures of my dress at different angles. I had my alterations done last minute and there was a huge gap on the left side of my dress from how they restitched the lace back on, but I'm the only one that really knew or noticed...

A seamstress can work wonders. Your dress will come out great and fit you properly. You look great in your dress!!
