Alteration!

Hi!!
I got my dress at David’s Bridal and they do alterations in house. However, they want you to schedule 1 month ahead of your wedding and they don’t really do quotes or estimates. I’ve heard their alterations pricing is crazy but I’ve also heard it’s not bad.

I’m wondering if any of you ladies got pricing from DB and another location and if the prices were significantly different?

I did but I ended up going with another highly recommended seamstress who bases her prices off of David's Bridal to be competitive. I heard from a couple they charge more.

Check reviews on seamstress around you, and get a quote. I think 1 month in advance is way to risky. I would want them to finish at least a 4-6 weeks ahead, in case something went wrong 🥂

I did not get outside quotes, but just went with DB, because I could schedule through text and I knew they would clean the dress as well which was important to me since I got mine off the rack. I paid more for alterations than I did my dress. But let me clarify by saying my dress was only $107 with tax. Overall I still paid less than the original price of the dress and stayed within my original dress budget.

Second comment. My first alterations appt was in June (wedding date is Oct 24). It took them 3 weeks to complete it. There’s no way I’d wait till only 1 month before the wedding to have alterations made. That would have put me running to pick up the dress the week before the wedding.

If I could do it over I’d just go straight to my local seamstress. I went with DB because they’re reputable and know the dresses they store..... they completely ruined my dress. Less than a week before the wedding, and multiple failed DB alterations, I brought it to my seamstress who tried their best to fix the mistake...

I am in Illinois and they recommended 8 weeks. I got married Sept 12 and had my first alterations appointment in June - I was able to schedule outside their 8 week window no problem. It took about 4 weeks and then I had another round of alterations in July (that they did for free) to keep making the first round fit perfectly. That also took 4 weeks so I took my dress home in August. A month out is way too close, especially if you need a second round.
