Altar/Reception Flowers --> what to do

Sandi, on April 17, 2013 at 8:18 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 9

Hey this is Joe question ... What do we do with the altar flowers after we use the at the reception? It's not in a vase but rather lays across. Sandi is unsure and she said we should ask the women of WW. I'm the groom and yes, I'm asking for feedback on this.

Hi, Joe! Adorable and fantastic to see a groom active in the wedding planning, btw.

If you're holding the ceremony in a church, many couples leave the flowers behind "donated" to the church. If you're dead set on taking them to the reception with you, a nice vase on your escort card or guestbook table to stand up the bunch of blooms (am I envisioning this correctly?) would be a very nice touch. If it's a low arrangement of flowers in a block of foam or wire, you could do just the same without the vase.

Afterwards, (or if you're not getting married in a church/that idea of donating to the church doesn't appeal) you can always donate all live flowers to a local hospital, rest or retirement home that you've contacted before hand for permission. It will brighten their day!

Hi Joe, you usually don't take the flowers with you. They are a gift to whatever saint/church. I would just plan on leaving the flowers at the church.

I know that when people leave flowers at my dads church, they throw them out. I think courtenay's idea of donating them to a hospital or nursing home is awesome. Smiley smile

Thank you ladies - I do understand that normally the flowers stay at the church, Sandi had stated this. However, our arrangements are worked into our reception which will be taking place at a Winery.

Since, we didn't even think ahead of contacting a nursing home or hospital to donate them after the reception... Should we bring vases with us and then just create arrangement within them at the end of the night? Sandi states that would be cool but we also don't want to have to over work ourselves either. So, should we buy vases and have people take some flowers as they leave?

Thank you - as the groom I didn't want my bride to be stressing over so many things either. She always says, this wedding is as much about you as it is about myself.

No need to overwork yourselves on your wedding! You have a couple days 'til the wedding. You don't need to arrange the flowers, the chaplain and the gift shop at hospitals usually take care of that (or separate arrangements to make them go further) and place them in rooms of patients who don't often receive visitors, or patients going through crisis.

If you call and speak to the chaplain today, I am sure they know someone on Comfort Care staff who could take some time to come and get the flowers. It's worth a try.

Alright, thanks for the ideas. Something to consider. Sandi says its very cool to see me working on this. If she's smiling then I've done right. I'm sure Sandi will let you know what our final out come will be. As Sandi says, stay tuned... ( music plays and fades out)

    Have a good day
