All inclusive resort prize...is this a scam?

Victoria, on March 3, 2014 at 11:02 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 26

Hey Ladies. I was chosen to attend a bridal registry event this past weekend in Greenville, NC. One of my prizes for getting chosen was a 2 night stay at an all inclusive resort at Viva Wyndham. I am responsible for paying for the taxes and the refundable down payment but the Bridal registry company pays for the vacation. This seems too good to be true! Has anyone else ever heard of this or actually used a promotion like this. It is set up through Odenza Marketing Group in California. I have attached photos of what my prize booklet looks like! Help me please!

It's not a scam, per se, but you will have to listen to their entire sales pitch, pay for your travel to the resort location, pay taxes on the "prize", etc. Usually the resorts are not that great either. Save your money! The bridal registry crap is always BS.

I agree with Stephanie. I wouldn't do it. Not worth it.

I agree with the others. You may win, but need to listen to timeshare and company pitches all day and they really harass you to buy their product/timeshare/etc.

No, it's a flat out scam. They are one of the biggest time share companies. Getting the trip you "won" will be next to impossible if you don't buy.

I did the whole sit through the talk and get the prize. My fiancé wanted the items so we bought it and the company mailed us a 7 night voucher. So far no problems. Sandals resorts are included. I will post my experience when we officially book. Smiley smile

They may require you to sit through a timeshare presentation. It takes an hour or two. Whatever they say, just dont sign anything, and take the info with you, say oh ill want to show a brochure to my sister/coworker/mom so ill take a flier with me, but dont say that youll come back, even if they ask you what your salary is and how affordable it is etc etc, but since youre not paying for the room on your "prize" id say its worth it for a free room.

This is the most recent post I've seen about this bridal registry. I never specifically signed up for anything but I did sign up for David's Bridal. I saw their logo at the bottom of the email dinner4two sent me (btw dinner4two is the company that sent me the same invite as the OP). I'm supposed to go to this thing tomorrow night in Madison, wi and the location is reputable. After reading these posts everywhere, I'm nervous. It seems like everybody that orders the rings gets them no problem, but I would rather the trip. Unfortunately I cant find info from anyone that's taken the trip. Only ppl that got the vouchers. One lady said she sent money to pay for taxes and deposit then didn't get a call back. But nobody else complained. Please let me know how things go for you! Nobody ever follows up.

Did anyone take the trip. I got the vouchers early 2014 but haven't done anything with them because I'm unsure if it's legit. Please share your experience if you redeemed the trip voucher.

Most vendors at Bridal Shows are timeshares and not travel agents. It's either a timeshare or scam. If you can handle not buying the timeshare take it, but they are good at what they do. Nothing is for free ladies.

I was just contacted for the same thing asking us to go to the Hilton to pick up our prize, I'm very nervous after reading these comments but am really hoping it's real we had to cancel our previously booked honeymoon and deserve to Go on one. Can someone who followed through with the trip please let me know.

Not a scam at all. I just came back from my honeymoon there. They helped book my tickets and tours as well. I stayed at a gorgeous resort and yes we paid the taxes and all inclusive fees but it was definitely worth it because we saved a ton on the room cost. There's some incredible resorts to chose from but you have to do your research.

I think the issue is that you have to mail in the signed certificate along with a printed copy of your proof of payment. Some people probably just pay online and wait for a call, which is what I did for one week and then reread it, and mailed in my certificate. I got a call from Odenza today and will be booking. NOT a scam. Just take the trip and enjoy it!!
