All inclusive resort or no?

Megan, on January 2, 2020 at 7:53 AM Posted in Honeymoon 0 9

I have never been to an all inclusive resort is it worth it? I was thinking it might be but FH said it might make more sense to skip the all inclusive resort and do our thing might be cheaper too? What have your experiences been. He seems like his heart is set on Hawaii.

Eh we have been to both and it depends on what your “all inclusive” includes - I would weigh out pros and cons and compare a few different places before choosing -

Like PP says it depends on what you want.

If you plan to stay on the resort to use the amenities it makes sense. All inclusive usually includes 3 meals a day plus snacks and drinks. Also includes access to beaches, pools, shows and other activities. If you plan to lounge by the pool and sip cocktails, an all inclusive may be for you.

If you want to explore the city where you are and go on excursions, day trips or anything like that- I would stay at a regular hotel or rent a place.

I’m pretty sure Hawaii doesn’t have all inclusive resorts, so your problem may be resolved right there lol

I'd honestly just research the options available and compare prices that way.. it probably depends on the resort itself and what all is actually included.

We did an all-inclusive in Jamaica and absolutely loved it, although I think we probably gained about 10 pounds each! They also offered water sports such as glass-bottom kayaks, snorkeling, and even scuba diving from the resort, so we only went on one paid excursion (horseback riding IN the ocean) because I had my heart set on doing that. Overall, it seemed pricey upfront but was 100% worth it - we're hoping to return with friends in a few years for our anniversary!

(Edited to add that we did an adults-only all-inclusive, we were among the youngest guests and it was so nice / relaxing!)

Agree that there are not many true "all-inclusive" resorts within the US. You might find a place in Hawaii that includes breakfast and/or lets you package some activities, but not a pay one price for all meals/beverages/etc. We did an all-inclusive in Jamaica and had a blast; except for a couple of excursions, we stayed on the property for a week and it was nice to not worry about needing to carry cash or credit cards. We just ate & drank whatever we were in the mood for, whenever we wanted it. Honestly? It seemed to be a pretty good deal financially. I've also done cruises, which are technically kind of "all-inclusive," but then spent almost the cost of the cruise on not included add-ons. I'd start by setting a total budget and then look at your options to see what best meets your goals.

I wanted Hawaii initially until I was told how expensive it was. They dont have all inclusive resorts. So the Caribbean was the next option. We chose Sandals because they're all inclusive, allow payments and in includes our honeymoon. We're staying 7 days with all food, drink, and water sports, and our wedding for free.

We are doing an all inclusive to Jamaica. Everything is included, and we just want to lounge on the beach, with some mild adventuring. I originally want Hawaii as well, but it is SO expensive. No all inclusives either, I don’t think.
