All inclusive honeymoon! What does that really mean?

LaNovia, on January 26, 2016 at 6:35 PM Posted in Honeymoon 0 21

Hello! We were originally thinking about skipping our honeymoon until next year due to financial reasons but then some of my coworkers suggested doing a all inclusive honeymoon (and we are under budget so we thought why not,)They said you actually don't spend as much since your drinks and food are included. We are thinking about booking Excellence Resort and I'm wondering what does " all inclusive" really mean? Is there a limit of drinks and food or is it like a buffet all you can eat kinda thing? Is there hidden costs? Do we tip? I looked online but it didn't say much. So my questions....What is your experience with all inclusive resorts ? Any tips or advice? TIA!

Yes all your food and drinks are included. There is no limit. So it really is "all inclusive" just check some of their a la carte restaurants as some resorts don't include them in the "all inclusive" package (you have to pay extra) and some resorts do include them as all inclusive. I have heard great things about Excellence Resorts but have never actually been there.

Do save some money for tips. They say it's not necessary, but I think it's definitely something you should do Smiley smile

Anything extra like excursions or anything off the resort (and some water sports or spa/gym on the resort) you are going to have to pay for. Gooduck Smiley smile Smiley smile

Yes, everything is included, no limit, but some things (beachside dinner...spa...excursions) cost extra. We did Excellence Punta Cana and it was wonderful.

We chose an all inclusive resort but declined the all inclusive package. I emailed the resort ahead of time and asked to see their menu with pricing. There is NO way that FH and I will eat/drink enough to justify the cost of the all inclusive meal plan.

But every resort is different. Look into yours and ask questions. Ours was going to charge $550 per person per day. And their meals were average priced ($10-$40). We don't need $1100 per day on food/drink so we decided against it. It sounds good in theory because you don't have to worry about paying and it feels like it's cheaper. But like I said, it isn't always. Just contact the resort and make an educated decision after getting all the info.

I love all inclusive, yes the drinks and food are all included and usually your transportation from the airport to the resort is included as well. Usually the resorts have different specialty restaurants you can try each night and a buffet as well. I've heard really good things about Excellence, they are one of the top of the line resorts.

No hidden costs and some resorts won't let you tip, but some we would tip the bartenders at the pool.

There's not typically a limit no. I always do all inclusive even though I'm not a big drinker because I don't want to say "that's too expensive to order" when I'm on vacation. Totally worth it.

We went to Excellence Playa Mujeres and loved it. We did spend about 1k while we were there on things like excursions, tips, wine upgrades at dinner and souvenirs but we were splurging. We could have gotten away with spending less. There are restaurants, buffets, and 24hr room service all included.

You have to check out the specific resort to make sure. But usually all meals and all drinks are included. It's so worth it. Don't expect 5-star food. Breakfast and lunch are nothing special but never bad. The specialty restaurants are usually amazing dinners though. And it's really worth your money if you can drink a lot. And the resorts are such a great, laid back atmosphere. I absolutely love all inclusive vacations.

Some people mentioned tips, and you will definitely want to give even just a few dollars. The waitstaff and bartenders go above and beyond.

It means everything is included, food, drinks, accommodations, taxes, gratuity. However, read exactly what it covers. It can vary. Spas and activities are not included or they give you points toward it.

We love all inclusives! Your room, food and drinks/booze and gratuities are all included. Yes, gratuities. Thay being said, we still bring a bit for housekeeping and bartenders who go the extra mile. I've noticed that people from other countries get really pissed that Americans tip extra. Oh well. Anyway, you will have a great time. Just double check to be sure the specialty restaurants and top shelf liquors are included.

Every resort is going to be different; your best bet is to call your resort and make sure the things you want are the things that are included. Double check the tipping policy and do tip people who went over the top for you.

Thank you all for your input. I am going to call the resort and ask about the tipping policy and what all is included. We are sooooo excited! This will be my first "real" vacation!

I'm going all-inclusive for my honeymoon and I learned in my search that all-inclusive mean different things for different resorts. I ended up going with sandals because they are 100% all-inclusive including premium spirits and water sport and unlimited anything with no hidden fees and adult only. Since it's international I really like the fact that they had transportation to and from the airport because I've been warned by a lot of coworkers about taxi drivers in other countries charging you insane amounts are just driving in random places and trying to sell you things. Other all-inclusive places that I have seen just include basic alcohol if that's a factor for you and they have all-inclusive restaurants where the cost of the food and drinks is included in your total resort cost but somethings you will have to pay for like top shelf alcohol or specific restaurants and maybe activities if it doesn't include that. Some resorts even had limitations for how many meals/drinks you could have!! Really look into it before you book because there's the possibility for hidden fees. I Don't know if you have traveled to the Caribbean or not but when I went it was so expensive for everything like I'm talking seven dollars for a daiquiri without alcohol and $15 for a basic hamburger. so to me all-inclusive was definitely worth it especially since with my resort I can just make payments on my vacation and then get there and not have to worry about paying and balancing a check book! Lol

If you're still looking at Excellence, I can tell you that it's truly all inclusive. No surcharges for fancier drinks/food. We did the Excellence Club (VIP) and it was awesome. There is a bar in the room and you can just tell the concierge "I don't like gin, can I have Jack Daniels?" and they'll have it in your bar in like 10 minutes. 24 hour room service. There is always food being served, several bars, pool/beachside service, there is even pool/beachside PIZZA DELIVERY (this was at Punta Cana, I don't know if the others are exactly the same but I'm sure they are similar). I believe their "official" tipping policy was no tipping, but plenty of people do.

We did all inclusive! It was amazing. 7 nights 8 days in Riviera Maya with round trip airfare for 2 for $2000. The only out of pocket we paid for was tips (went the bank beforehand and got $75 in 1s to tip with), spa which was optional but it was our honeymoon so we did it($100), and 1 excursion (again we wanted to do it, $200). We could have chose not to do those things.

We are 5 meals a day and could get room service. Unlimited drinks. Lunch and breakfast buffet was AMAZING and specialty dinners were the best... Best steak we ever had.

It was so nice because everything but tip and spa we paid ahead of time so no surprise costs.
