alcoholic drink recipes please!

NLeo, on April 3, 2014 at 3:26 PM Posted in Do It Yourself 0 16

We tested a few recipes last weekend to make for our drink dispensers and they were awful! Anyone have a good recipe?

We want fruity drinks. We also thought about a mojito becuase its summery but it sounds like a pain to muddle that much mint. Easier would be better :-)

Blue Hawaiian and Mountain Dew... whatever ratio you like. I find that about half and half is good for me, but I like sweet stuff.

It's a lovely, blue, tropical drink... and I HATE Mountain Dew!

Mojitos are best if you have a LOT of patience.

I would do a red sangria and a white sangria. This is the red sangria I make at home. You can use burgundy jug wine, so it's both very cheap and quite potent: http://allrecipes.com/recipe/classic-spanish-sangria/

You could also offer a lower-alcohol white sangria. The shortcut version is 2/3 dry white wine (like sauvignon blanc) and 1/3 white cranberry juice. Stir together, add cut-up peaches and berries, and refrigerate overnight. It also looks really pretty.

You could also do a margarita bar. Prepare a variety of margaritas, then have an area where people can put salt or sugar on the rims of their glasses, add garnishes like limes and pineapples, etc.

My two margaritas are Classic and Mango. Amounts are for a small pitcher.

    Classic:

    1.5 cups gold tequila
    1/2 cups triple sec
    2 cups lime juice
(I don't do sweet and sour mix, it's not traditional and it makes the drink too syrupy)

    Mango:
    1.5 cups silver tequila
    1/2 cups triple sec
    2 cups lime juice
    2 cups mango nectar

For a daytime wedding, you could do a mimosa bar. Put out champagne, then offer various juices - orange, grapefruit, pomegranate, and mango. You can also offer peach nectar for Bellinis.

A champagne punch can also be refreshing and budget-friendly. I've made this Martha Stewart one before, it's light and not too sweet. You can save money by using cava or prosecco instead of champagne. I'm a fan of Jaume Serra Cristallino cava, in my area it's about $7 a bottle and tastes as good as the $20 stuff. http://www.marthastewart.com/332824/pomegranate-champagne-punch

OMG! Sangria! I made some for my bridal shower and it was all gone when everyone went to go get seconds. I didn't think many ppl would drink it but I was a huge hit! Great for camp fires and get togethers too!

    Recipe makes 1 gallon

2 (10 ounce) packages frozen strawberries, thawed

1 (12 fluid ounce) can frozen lemonade concentrate, thawed

2 (750 milliliter) bottles chilled rose wine, such as white Zinfandel. I usually use Arbor Mist Berry Zinfandel

    2 cups pineapple juice

1 liter Ginger Ale--I use diet Ginger Ale and I only put enough in there to fill the container. I don't think I put a liter in it though.

Mix it all together and top it off with frozen strawberries. SO GOOD!

I'm seeing a lot of recipes using diet soda. If you go that route, I strongly recommend putting some sort of label on it so people know it's diet. I'm allergic to artificial sweeteners (a fairly common allergy). It can also cause headaches for non-allergic people. Normally I don't drink something unless I know what's in it, but, well, a few drinks in and we all become less cautious.

    These ideas are awesome!

Shannon- I totally agree on the diet sign. I get horrible stomach cramps when I drink artIficial sweeteners. had no idea it's such a common allergy though.

This may be wayyyyy too much alcohol... But for parties I will usually infuse a handle of stoli with pineapple juice. Cut up 3 whole pineapples, stack in a drink dispenser, pour in the vodka - let it sit for at least a week. Tastes ahhhh- mazing. You could always add pineapple juice or sprite after if you wanted to cut down the alcohol content but it looks so pretty!
