For anyone who is not using a company for your bar, where are you getting your alcohol? We are getting married at a private residence and do not need a licensed bartender (our friends mom is a licensed bartender and doing it for us anyways) and we've decided to have an open bar but I'm not sure...

For anyone who is not using a company for your bar, where are you getting your alcohol?

We are getting married at a private residence and do not need a licensed bartender (our friends mom is a licensed bartender and doing it for us anyways) and we've decided to have an open bar but I'm not sure where to get the best bang for my buck! Grocery stores? Liquor stores? Walmart? Sam's Club?

Obviously kegs will be coming from a liquor store but we also need hard alcohol!

Any help?

It's amazing to me what they allow in other states. In Pennsylvania you cannot buy alcohol in bulk and it literally just became legal to buy alcohol at the grocery store. I'm talking 2017 legal here. The liquor store will buy back unopened bottles?? Seriously ? That's awesome! We don't have a Costco here or where I'm getting married. Smiley sad sams club does not sell alcohol

Costco for hard liquor, my mom has been picking up wine on sale left and right everywhere, haha...she is very excited to be on wine duty. We will probably also hit up BevMo's 5 cent wine sale. Costco so far has been the most competitive price-wise for liquor, we priced out about 15 1.75 litres for less than $300.

FH's former HS classmate has an import/export liquor company and they're providing it for us

Total Wine & More. I compared prices at Ralphs (Kroger), Bevmo, Trader Joe's, and a local liquor store FH swore always had great deals. Total Wine won in nearly every wine or liquor we wanted.

NOTE FOR CALIFORNIA PEOPLE: You can't return alcohol in CA. At least that's what they told me at Total Wine. A guy at Ralphs over the phone said we could. But we bought a case of a Pinot Noir as recommended by Total Wine and opened a bottle at home to try it and it was just awful. We took it back and manager said no returns on alcohol but she was nice and let us exchange it for something else. She really made it sound like she was doing us a favor though. So make sure you buy stuff you know you like so you can drink it later if you get too much for the wedding.

We are getting our liquor from Costco. They allow for unopened bottles to be returned as long as they are in good shape. We found out that many of the Kirkland brand liquor is the same (or at least very comparable) to the top shelf branded stuff and it's a fraction of the cost. By going with Costco's Kirkland brand, we cut our liquor budget in half (Example: a 1.75 ml bottle of Grey Goose is $68 in my area, $48 at Costco, and $21-22 for the comparable Kirkland brand). We are most likely getting our beer at Total Wine (kegs and bottles) and our wine is coming from a local winery.
