ALCOHOL

Bailey, on August 21, 2017 at 11:01 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

For anyone who is not using a company for your bar, where are you getting your alcohol?

We are getting married at a private residence and do not need a licensed bartender (our friends mom is a licensed bartender and doing it for us anyways) and we've decided to have an open bar but I'm not sure where to get the best bang for my buck! Grocery stores? Liquor stores? Walmart? Sam's Club?

Obviously kegs will be coming from a liquor store but we also need hard alcohol!

Any help?

We are purchasing our own, probably from Sam's or Costco because we can return unopened bottles.

Sam's club... I thought I found a killer sale at Meijer for beer, picked up about 12 cases to find out later that week they were $2 less at Sam's! They also have the best rates for sodas, but I did hear target runs a holiday sale coming up soon cheaper than Sam's.

Wine.. I am going to Meijer for. They provide a 10% discount after 6 bottles and they have a decent selection (I love wine and I want a variety).

You could do some pricing research on several big stores and see who's cheaper.

We aren't doing liquor, but if we were I would do Costco. Their Kirkland brand spirits are top notch. We are doing bottled beer from Costco, and wine from either bevmo or a local wine company (tbd once we decide on varietal and brand). Plus homebrew beer in a keg.

Total wine and more Beats bevmo and Costco by over $150 on 3 bottles tequilla, 20 bottles wine, and variety of roughly 400 beers. Not even using big sale either

We used Total Wine and More and triple checked that they accepted returns. We did a modified open bar and had 15 last minute no-shows. We were able to return $650 worth of alcohol! I will always shop at Total Wine!!

We are buying beer and champagne from Costco. We are going to a liquor store warehouse (grocery stores in Alaska don't sell ANY booze) for the wine!

We are going with total wine. They allow returns and price match local ads.

Definitely go somewhere who will buy back the extra. most places won't buy back anything that has already been chilled.

as far as the licensed bartender, i'd be weary not to use one (although it sounds like you are). for liability reasons, if someone got into an alcohol-related accident after and you didn't have a licensed bartender serving your guests, i think you could be held liable.

We are doing the liquor store. We are from PA so we are limited to where we can buy.

Total Wine and Costco would be at the top of my list. Both have excellent return policies, good prices, and Costco Kirkland brand is fantastic in alcohol too!

BevMo has a 5 cent wine sale... that's where I bought my cases of wine. Costco would work also.
