ALCOHOL POLL

For our venue we supply the alcohol for the open bar ourselves. Here are my questions: 1. For anyone who has also had to do this where did you find alcohol the cheapest? Sams club/Costco? 2. FH wants Miller lite as one beer option... what should be a second choice?

We had the same set up. We provided alcohol and bartenders. Here's what we're doing:

Wine: We watched for sales at Meijer and bought the 1.5 liter bottles of Sutter Home Merlot and Chardonnay. Meijer has really good sales every few weeks.

Beer: 2 kegs 1 of Bud Light and the other of Sam Adams Oktoberfest

2 Mixed cocktails: Spiked Cider and Cranberry Sangria

Booze: I would do Costco. Rumor has it that you can return any unopened bottles. I'm not sure on that though because my dad lives in NC and it was like $3 cheaper per bottle so he bought it for us and brought it up with him.

Good luck! I can't wait to hear what you found out!

We got our wedding wine from Trader Joe's ($3ish a bottle) - Aldi also has good inexpensive wine for ~ $3. We got champagne from Costco :-) Trader Joe's (and wine/liquor stores) also let you return unopened wine if you don't use it all, so that's a plus.

    1. My caterer has a connection with a wholesaler - I heard this is the way to go, they also buy back any opened cases. Unsure about Sams Club etc.

    2. We are having Miller Lite, Sam Adams, and an IPA (Two Roads)

My caterer recommended we get our beer from Costco since we're getting married in VA.

My cousin is getting married in PA and she's going to a local beer distributor since Costco and Sam's Club don't sell alcohol there. You might be able to get a good deal if you go to a local distributor instead.

You could add an IPA for cocktail hour, and when it runs out it runs out. Maybe add Sam Adams Boston Lager or some other relatively light beer.

    Eta: grammar

Total Wine is always my go-to vendor for purchasing alcohol for events. You can by beer by the bottle, case, or keg. Wine by the bottle or case. The do offer discounts & often have coupons, AND you can return what you don't use! The employees are always very knowledgeable & they provide estimates for how much you should buy.

A lot of guys seem to like ales -- the two I've heard of Sierra Nevada Pale Ale and Guiness Dry Stout. I don't drink either, but I know ale drinkers who speak highly of both.

Oh, and this may be the mother in me, but make sure you're hiring a licensed, insured bartender.

    Party on.

I plan to use Costco, and I've already scoped it out. I would go with one of Costco's variety pack beers although you'd have to get miller separate. They have a lot of different choices. Maybe have the gm do a tasting. I plan to do so with wine and my girls.

I work at a bar, so my employer actually offered to let me get liquor and beer through her because it's actually at wholesale prices. However I usually buy from alcohol super stores because they tend to have good prices - walmart has a fair selection too.

I'd go with a fuller beer, like Budweiser to pair with the light choice.
