ALCOHOL POLL

MissMay18, on September 27, 2017 at 7:44 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 32

For our venue we supply the alcohol for the open bar ourselves. Here are my questions:

1. For anyone who has also had to do this where did you find alcohol the cheapest? Sams club/Costco?

2. FH wants Miller lite as one beer option... what should be a second choice?

Costco by far is the the cheapest place you can go for alcohol. Though I'd imagine Sams Club would be just as competitive. For the beer choice, depends if you enjoy microbrews and craft beers or something more mainstream. since Miller is already mainstream, you might pick a local beer? If cost is a factor you can do something in between like 805 or Lagunitas or Sierra Nevada.

Miller Lite is a good start. You may also want to provide an IPA and maybe a wheat beer. You also have some wines available. Maybe 2 whites (pinot Grigio and chardonnay are always popular) and 2 reds (maybe a cab Sauv, red blends or pinot Noir...). Don't forget about non-alcoholic options (soda, juice, water, etc).

I'm not sure where to find the cheapest alcohol, but costco and sams are def a good start. If you have a BevMo in your area, you could stock up during their $0.05 wine sales. Smiley smile

Check around and see if your venue recommends a place. We found a place that delivers, no sales tax charged due to state, and they will buy back and refund any unopened bottles. They were very helpful with making recommendations with various price ranges

Costco and Sam's club will let you return whatever you don't open so I'm going to get mine there!

Costco is the cheapest but we went with Bevmo because they do free chilled delivery so it was 1 less thing we had to worry about it. The beers Barbara listed are all good choices. Or go with a local craft beer.

We are buying ours from sams! Prices are the same as Costco and you can return any unopened bottles, my Costco didn't allow returns.

What state are you in? That will make a huge difference is where you can buy beer. Around me it is cheapest to go to a beer distributor.

Second beer choice depends on what your friends and family drink. Maybe a wheat beer?

I'd look into an option that allows returns. I was going to go for Costco but you can't return their alcohol. We bought from Total Wine in Delaware (weee no sales tax!) and were able to return $600 worth of unused alcohol. Big picture, being able to return may save you more than buying at Costco.

Bevmo does complimentary wine tasting and delivery. They also allow you to order with their 5 sale pricing. Booze and beer would do Costco. And if do an IPA.

If you know anyone be military the BX on base is the best to get alcohol, it's cheaper and tax free. I prefer beer and would go with a yuengling and maybe a cider like angry orchard

Agree with Heather G. Costco was cheaper for their Kirkland Brand but for call brands it was the same price in my local liquor store, and I could return unopened bottles.

For beer you are actually better off shopping the sales at the supermarkets, cvs, rite aide, or walgreens. Also use Ibotta for the rebates. Costco is probably your best best for liquor pricing!

Costco is really not the cheapest option. I have priced every store from CVS, Kroger, Costco, Sam's, private liquor stores, total wine and Trader Joe's in Texas and Kentucky for both my wedding and a professional organization were I chaired the annual Christmas party blowout. The cheapest place is total wine if you have it. If not then Kroger for wine and cvs/rite aid for liquor. Kroger offers periodic 20% off sales on wine so watch for those. To save, you have to watch sales and buy early. I got half my liquor 4 months ago for my wedding tomorrow because total wine having a sale. I legit went multiple times a day to buy the deep discounted premium liquor because they limit you to 2 bottles a person. It was so low of a price that local mom and pop liquor stores would buy and then resell at their stores.

Also, kegs are only a good deal if you know they will all be tapped that night. With cans and bottles, you get to keep the extra and no waste.

    1) we got ours at Total Wine

    2) I'd suggest more than just 2 beer options. I agree with Kate, a darker beer and an IPA. We had miller lite, an IPA, yuengling, and Blue Moon.

Another good option that I think lots of people like would be Corona.

We're doing this. Our grocery store has it to where if you buy 6 bottles or more you get a 30% discount. We also bought larger bottles at Costco and Sam's Club
