Alcohol at a wedding for non-drinkers

My FH and I don't really drink. I don't like the taste/feeling of drunkenness, and he has a liver condition that makes it dangerous. My FH and I don't really drink. I don't like the taste/feeling of drunkenness, and he has a liver condition that makes it dangerous. We still want to provide booze at our wedding though, for those who will like it. For our restaurant reception, they offer an open bar package that we're just going to get for the night, and all the alcohol will be provided. However, we are planning an afterparty on a sailboat, and we need to stock the bar ourselves for that.

Can you recommend a couple of kinds of beer and a couple of kinds of wine that are likely be be crowdpleasers? We're thinking one light beer and one dark beer, one red wine and one white, plus maybe some prosecco (one of the only drinks I do like). What are some safe choices?

Following for ideas local to me.... my FH is not a drinker at all but I love wine and a lot of our friends drink also. Most of the family however does not drink. I think these are some great suggestions.

Moscato is nothing like prosecco. Moscato is a dessert wine and should be treated as such. Offer a Pinot grigio, Sauv blanc, or chardonnay. For red, cabernet or a cab blend are most versile.

For beer, I think a pilsner style and a pale ale or IPA are crowd pleasers.

As far as wine goes I like apothic red and apothic white, they are both blends and very tasty and on the cheaper side.

First of all, good on you for hosting your guests well!! Smiley smile

so, for wines, I agree that for white, a Pinot Grigio is a solid choice. Maybe a Reisling, its a little on the sweeter side, but not quite as sweet as a moscato.

Red, you can rarely go wrong with a Merlot. I'm also a HUGE fan of Malbec. Its what got me into red wines.

Beer: NewCastle is a solid choice. Fat Tire is good too. If you want a stout, Guinness is the way to go. I'm also a fan of Hoegaarden for a lighter beer. Blue Moon is another favorite. (We hunted for WEEKS for canned blue moon for me for my wedding...no glass allowed, sadly.)

I would do some Pinot Grigio for white and either a red blend or cab for red wine. With the beer, I'd keep it simple and get one domestic (Bud Light, Ultra) and an import.

Pinot Grigio and Cabernet Sauvignon are solid wine choices. You don't want to do anything too sweet if you're only having one of each because most people can't handle a lot of sweet wine. For the beers, I would go with either a porter or an amber (not dark, more middle of the road) and a wheat beer.

Really appreciate the ideas! We're going to buy a few of the popular beers and wines you've all suggested and have a friend with a taste for beer and wine sample them and help us put together a list. We may also try to get a local beer. Thanks from both of us!

I agree with the suggestions @yasminadlv made for lighter beer (Hoegaarden and Blue Moon.. my favorites) but would also throw Shock Top in there because they have many different flavors to choose from and I seem to find it in stores/bars easier than the other two. As for wine, I think safe choices would be pinot grigio or sauvignon blanc for white, and merlot or cabernet sauvignon for red. Good luck!
