My sister is getting married sometime next summer or fall (date TBA) and I'm MOH. I mentioned to her that my husband and I are trying to get pregnant, and she asked me to wait until after her wedding - her concern is that if I have a new baby or if I'm pregnant that will take my focus away from her on her big day. My concern is that I'm already 35 and already feel old to be starting a family (but I desperately want one). I told her I would be there for her as much as possible but that I wouldn't wait 12+mos to try to get pregnant, especially given my age. Does this make me the a$$hole?

Oh and good luck! Now is such a stressful time and I empathize so much with you. I'm supposed to get married next month and will be 35 by the end of the year. My FH and I really wanted to get married before trying for a baby and I really didn't want to delay, and now we have no idea when our wedding can happen and when it will be safe to be pregnant, especially as an "older" couple. I'm worried that even if we can get married, if we get pregnant I won't be able to get adequate pre-natal care and that my FH will not be allowed to participate in appointments and the birth because of how Covid-19 plays out. It's just awful.

I really hope you are able to conceive and have a safe, healthy pregnancy where you can each fully participate, and that you are your husband are able to have a wonderful experience as parents-to-be and new parents!

Have your baby whenever you want to! She has no right to tell you how to live YOUR life. She is being selfish and worrying about the "attention" being taken away from her is just her being insecure. She is the bride, everyone will be paying attention to her! I wish you luck in starting your family!! Smiley smile

Wow, that's awful. Of her. I am also 35 and want a child, so I understand completely. If you waited and missed your chance, you'd resent her forever. You definitely did the right thing.

I understand where you are coming from. I just turned 35 and a little nervous at my age to have a child. And she is way out of line to ask you to wait to start a family. If you are ready go for it!

NTA. It's absolutely insane to ask someone to put their life on hold because you want to be the center of attention. It will be her day regardless of whether you have a new baby. It's amazing that someone can be so delusional.

First off one of my bridesmaids had to postpone her wedding in March, She's 35 and was hoping to try to get pregnant after her wedding in march. My wedding is in October and I already knew she may be pregnant and have a bump by then. After all is said and done she is waiting to postpone becaause she wont have some family who can attend in the fall and she already had her dress altered so she would rather try to get pregnant and then have her wedding when she can and I have no problem with her being pregnant because who i am to put that restriction on her and possibly make her miss a chance if it takes awhile? Many brides have pregnant MOH and bridesmaids and some who are almost 8-9 months prego and it doesn't take away attention from the bride and i think it's absolutely cute!!!

I have a few people in my wedding party trying for babies and I would be THRILLED if they were pregnant at our wedding. In my opinion, it is two separate things and won't take away from the celebration of the bride/groom's day.

You're totally not the ass. Asking you not to get pregnant is completely different than asking you not to dye your hair neon pink. I'll be 33 when I get married in October, and we're definitely planning to start for a family right away. It can take awhile to conceive, so it could be a mute point (you may not conceive until closer to her wedding date and any fears she has may be unwarranted), but you're definitely not being an ass by postponing your trying to start a family.
