Aisle Runner?

MrsMem<3, on March 1, 2016 at 2:15 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 33

Did you have a aisle runner and if so did you like having one?

Also did you have it out for everyone to walk on or have it put down right before the flower girl goes down? I don't really have anyone to roll it out so i was thinking before the ceremony even starts but i feel that it might rip or something if everyone is on walking on it?

Opinions please?! Thanks Everyone! Smiley smile

We're not having one, but then again, we are having an outdoor ceremony. Heels, grass, runners and wind do not mix well.

    Nope. Tripping hazard.

I am thinking about having one, if I do I will have it already there. It seems a little weird to have it put out in front of the guests, like youre rolling out a red carpet or something. they are made to be walked on; it shouldnt rip.

Not a runner per se, but we're thinking something like this without the purple lighting

We are not having an aisle runner, just don't find them necessary.

Hmmm...I am following this thread because I was JUST looking at aisle runners online. I'd like to skip it if possible - but my ceremony is in a room with hardwood floors and I'm afraid I'll make too much noise walking down the aisle! So I'm still undecided (Super helpful to you OP, I know, sorry)

@Sarah I'd think for a beach wedding, you certainly wouldn't want a runner. Sand would cover it, making it dirty, plus if the wind picks up, the sand is being launched at guests, and your BP, or at you. It would be a hassle. Line the beach with beautiful flowers or shells where you want to walk and leave the runner at home.

I think they look kind of dated. And you don't need any more tripping hazard! I'd skip it.

I made mine, and we will have it already down, but guest can't walk on it. I don't like watching the butts of men walking backwards down a long aisle lol

We will have an aisle runner. I bought a basic, cheap runner and have (insanely) decided to glue petals onto it. We are getting married at a concrete overlook platform so i wanted to dress it up a little. I don't think they are necessary and if our ceremony was in a different location I may have skipped it.

We are getting married on a concrete terrace and our ceremony decor is pretty minimal. We will have a green astroturf aisle runner. I think it will look great with the concrete, the fruitwood folding chairs and our white chuppa (jewish wedding canopy)

    @Dharma81

I doubt you'd make "too much noise". What kind of dress will you be wearing and remember, there will be music playing.

We're not doing one because I want my train accented and that wouldn't happen with a runner. Also, grass/heels. Easy cost-cutter to just. Not. I'll show a pic of what we are planning on lining the aisle with instead...

I had one. I bought a plain white one and painted our names, the date and snowflakes on the aisle runner. (Attaching a picture of it). I had some of the runner already "out" (from the spot where the officiant stood until the first row of chairs). Each of the groomsmen escorted an honored guest down the aisle (DH's grandmother, stepmother, mother and my mother). I had them stay at the end of the aisle until DH, the BM and the officiant (DH's father) walk down the aisle. Once DH was in place, the GMs shook DH's hand and 2 of them pulled the aisle runner on their way back to escort BMs down the aisle.

@EleanorRigby - Thank you for the reassurance! My dress is just a simple sheath, and I have simple peep toe shoes with a kitten heel. So I think you may be right. Some of these aisle runners are so pretty though!

Jenny, is that my wedding at the ESB? It was beautiful

I don't see the need for them honestly, especially outside. If you decide to do one, in theory, only you should walk on it.

    Beach wedding? No.

Nope. I'm awkward enough on my own without adding potential hazards and "this is your only shot, don't trip" thoughts to the mix.

Ask your Limo. Most Limos in NYC provide the aisle runner and pull it out for you.
