Airbrushing isn't working out for me

Kristy, on June 15, 2012 at 12:31 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 20

So I have problematic, oily skin. To keep my skin at bay, I do many things, and don't wear much makeup. I look fine going out without makeup... just some minor scars and acne at times.

Had my heart set out on Airbrush makeup. Says it is good with oily skin and won't settle in creases. I experimented with two different people and ended up a greaseball within an hour or two. Any other people experience this?? I am so disappointed because I hear great things about airbrushing.

From what I've heard it's about the same as regular makeup in that it works better for some than others. See if the MUA can do regular makeup that has oil control and longwear properties?

Be sure the makeup artist is prepping your skin with the proper products. There are many quality primers made for oily skin. I would also ask the artist to use a water based airbrush foundation vs. a silicone base. There is no reason your skin should not be able to tolerate airbrush foundation if it is done correctly.

    Best wishes!

If your MUA is good she can acheive the airbrush look with regular make-up. I too struggled with going with airbrush vs. regular make-up. But my MUA said if your a crier. (Which I am) I wouldn't suggest going with it because as soon as you cry you will have tear stains that cannot be fixed all over your cheecks. Here is a pic of what my MUA acheived using regular make-up I LOVED it. Good Luck.

You look great! The one thing I wonder with all pics I see is, is this how you really looked? OR does the photographer do something to the pics??

Professional airbrush makeup will NOT streak when you cry, it won't melt, fade or sweat off. I use a product called Blot Out as a primer on oily skin. It helps keep the shine and oil down. Peter Thomas Roth also makes a great matte priming gel.

    What Stephanie said.

And Temptu S/B is my go to product for airbrushing most brides. Amazing product! Temptu does have other formulas, but this is the most common used among the pro artists I know, as well as mysel, due to it being, flawless, tear resistant, long lasting, smudge resistant, not heavy, etc. S/B works beautifully even on oily skin as long as the proper prepping AND finishing techniques are used. The airbrush is just another tool though. The hands the tool is in also make a world of difference!

I'm a bride to be, but I'm also a makeup artist. I use dinair airbrush, and you can use a glamour/waster based that will streak if u cry because it's not water proof. I like using that on myself because I have very oily skin and am able to set it well. The paredical makeup is alcohol based so it's waterproof and will not streak and hold up in hot weather, but my skin is so oily and bc the paramedical makeup dries as soon as it hits ur skin you can't set it like the glamour so there are pros & cons. I also teach classes and learned after doing the traditional makeup right before washing it then doing airbrush right after that the airbrush looks and feels 10xs better. It's an overall flawless look, but you do need to prep ur face with the proper primer for ur slim condition

Temptu is a great pro brand.

A proper starting base is super important for any skin.

Silcone based makeup such as Temptu's brand will provide a more dewey skin like appearance, Water based makeup will be more matte which is better for those with oily skin.

Dinar is a consumer marketed brand meaning it is designed for personal use. Yes, I have heard a lot of MUAs using it but I have yet to find Dinair on a film set. It is a thicker consistency than some of the more professional brands.

So now I am really confused. When speaking to this makeup artist, she reassured me that I was probably given an oil based foundation during my two bad trials. Yes, the trials were with different people even. Then she proceeded to tell me I need waterbased probably. Well, Temptu is silicone based. So, why wouldn't she tell me her kind is silicone so I probably won't like it? Instead she made me feel I would be okay with what they have. Am I misunderstanding something? Thank you!
