Airbrush vs. traditional makeup - Starting to dislike makeup trials forever!! :)

Private User, on March 1, 2014 at 5:03 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 19

Just seeing who is wearing what for their wedding and what you think of each? I have tried both. The airbrush looked very cakey after it sat on my face and surely shows all your imperfections (wrinkles) and for some reason has a very oily look to it? Anyone feel this way? I would worry about how to touch it up too or fixing it if you cried?

In regards to eye makeup, what is everyone doing? I have very big brown eyes and I am starting to not feel comfortable with the heavy eye makeup, lashes, etc. Maybe I am just a traditional bride when it comes to makeup, but nothing during my trials seems to fit me. Are there other brides out there like me that just don't want a cat eye, smokey eye. I just want to light angel look kinda makeup...or should I just get used to the heavy makeup cause you need this for photos? Really starting to hate makeup trials..and this is my second one. Smiley sad

Bare minerals. Youll never get used to someone poking the liner in your eye, but a strong eye is needed to keep the pictures looking good from 20 feet away. I suggest going to a mall counter and getting different makeovers from different vendors so you get a feel for different makeups. But bare minerals and clinique are my favorite

Anisea - Did you use Bare Minerals for your trial? Do you have any pictures you would be willing to post? The problem is finding a good makeup artist that travels, your comfortable with, and uses those products.

Try bb/cc cream, my skin does not like powder very well, however it works super well with my sister's skin. My mom cannot do liquid foundation as it dries and goes into her wrinkles but can do cc/bb cream, I tried liquid it was okay, not in love with it, really liked the bb/cc cream mix. I have done 3 trials with the same MUA. She has gotten the routine down that I the bb/cc cream looks natural on me and how to contour my face but man, still struggling with the eye color.

Alterna - I am glad I am not the only one having trouble with the eye color. My wedding is 7 months out and I feel like the world is coming to an end over this makeup lol. Who knew this could be so difficult.

I have really been struggling with my trials. Part of me wants to really glam up on my wedding day, but I'm just not kind of girl. I've decided to do traditional makeup that is very soft and lightly plays up my features. No heavy eyes and a light/soft lip.

The one plus has been the makeup---I chose an artist from the Chanel makeup counter at Nordstrom (she will be traveling to me that day). The makeup wears very well, and their foundation is awesome. They have varying levels of coverage.

Who did your trial? A make counter or a MUA? Either way, they should have asked you what look you were going for. I was actually just discussing this with my MUA when she asked what kind of look I want. Almost all of the brides she does want natural looking makeup, in other words for them to look like they aren't wearing makeup at all. And I've seen that very often when I search for pics of bridal makeup. So it is definitely doable and done correctly, it should still photograph beautifully.

Tell you MUA that you want something very polished and natural... avoid Bare Minerals (too much mica that reflects and therefore washes out your skin in pictures, looks great face to face ). I am too struggling with my MU because I just want an enhancement of what I already have. But this is what MU trails are for, to figure out what works for you... do not be afraid to tell them that you want to look natural, just more polished.

Make sure you're using a good primer! Followed by your foundation of choice, then set it with a good powder! Primer should reduce the cakey-ness/emphasized lines, and setting powder can help with the shine.

Sounds like the person who did your airbrush was not a professional??? Airbrush make up is not made to look cakey or settle in creases, rather it's supposed to do just the opposite. As another poster mentioned, primer is essential. It is kind of like the baking spray you put on your pan before you pour your batter on top. Without it, things are a mess. Explore make up counters for a good primer for your skin then I would ask the MUA to either try again or get a different MUA to do your airbrush. Sometimes airbrush can be done so badly when people are not experienced. Also, if you notice they are turning the airbrush machine on really high suggest they turn it down. They should be doing multiple layers at a low speed followed by air at a high speed. Just a thought. I hope all works out!!!!

Keep in mind that heavy makeup is necessary for it to look like you are wearing any makeup at all in your pictures... I understand not wanting to go overboard, but it really will look great when you are looking back on it! I think falsies look kind of silly in real life but I was so glad I wore them in my engagement pictures. They looked totally natural.

Please don't use bare minerals for your wedding makeup. Any makeup with Zinc or SPF coverage will reflect the light in pictures, making it look like you have white spots or streaks on your face.

Do NOT use Bare Minerals - I've heard to many horror stories. It looks great, but does not photograph well.

Airbrush is a technique and not all MUA's are comfortable or competent in using it. I would try it again with another MUA. Airbrush isn't supposed to cake - its a lighter application and therefore looks more flawless. It sounds like you had an experienced MUA who applied to much foundation. I do LOVE lashes though, even it natural make-up. Again, it depends on how skilled your MUA is.

Remember your MUA is working for you and they need your input and vision in order to give you results.

Airbrush is AMAZING if done correctly. Had it done for my cousins wedding, it was light, coverage was amazing, not cakey looking, and stayed ALL NIGHT. Last pic was taken with a cell phone

I went with traditional make-up. Had my MUA offered airbrush, I might have gone that route, but it wasn't an (easy) option.

As an MUA it my job to make my client happy, and a trial should be about them making the look you envision exactly what you get. Both traditional and airbrush make up can look flawless, assuming that the person knows what they are doing. Neither should feel caked on or heavy, airbrush does allow more coverage with less product but if the person you hire is good they will be able to create the look you want with whichever products you choose. I know trials can be exhausting but keep looking its your day!

I attached two pics of 1 of traditional and 1 of airbrush can u tell them apart?

Top is traditional, she had a lot of scarring from acne and hyper-pigmentation so I wanted something heavier. Point is you can achieve the same quality look either way. I attached one more pic of a repeat client who I have used traditional and airbrush on, both come out flawless. When you find someone who knows what they are doing it will look great no matter what you prefer.
