Airbrush Make-up.. Yay or Nay?

Heather, on April 7, 2017 at 12:06 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 33

I can't decide whether or not I want airbrush make-up! I have heard good and bad things! Some say it's gorgeous and stays perfect all day... others say if you cry/sweat it streaks and there is no way to blend or fix it!! What did you choose for your big day? Would you change it if you could go back? Tips? Suggestions? Professional opinions welcomed please!!

I did a trial for our engagement photos and I'm so thankful I did.

My hair was just curled so nothing crazy. Our engagement pictures were formal so not too fancy. I didn't want to do a "up do"

My makeup was traditionally done. I cannot begin to tell you how uncomfortable it was.

It was coming off within 2 hours. It was a nightmare tbh.

A trial is good because it gives you time to see what you like. Don't like. Want to change it if you want someone else.

I have a new hair and MUA. & my trial is actually next month.

    I'm very excited.

I know for a fact I'll be crying so, I need something that'll last for the entire day.

It's an expense but I'm willing to pay because I want to look my best.

    {hope that helps...}

Ps- you are 8 days before us Smiley smile congrats. Best of luck

Someone on here had half her face done in airbrush and half traditional. The airbrush looked awful. Maybe your MUA could do the same?

Definitely do a trial and talk to your MUA. A good MUA will be able to recommend one or the other for you. I've had airbrush done previously and really loved how it turned out with the photos and how light it felt on my skin, but I know that it doesn't work for everyone. I'm doing a trial with my MUA in a couple of months to make sure it stays on and looks good all day. If not, I'll switch to the traditional.

I got airbrushed make-up for my trial and loved it. It did not smudge, lasted all day with no issues.

In my opinion, traditional all the way. My makeup artist said this, which is SO true: if airbrush makeup was so much better than traditional, why don't all the celebrities use it?'

I had it done at my trial and it aged me significantly. I'm sure it would look great in photos but I don't want to feel ugly on my wedding day.

I love airbrush makeup! I think it feels light, looks great, and for me it stays all day through sweat and tears Smiley smile

It's totally personal choice though! I'd try both ways to see what you feel comfortable with and like the best on you! My mom is the only one who didn't choose airbrush makeup, because it tends to settle into any lines you have on your face.

ETA: And a great makeup artist will make either look amazing! We lost power while getting ready, so 2 bridesmaids had traditional makeup applied instead of airbrush - you can't tell at all!

My trial for airbrush was done in 90 degree weather when it was VERY humid out. It felt like I had an oil slick on my face honestly. My wedding wasn't until October so I decided to go earlier in the day for make-up so if I didn't like it or it felt similar to the trial she would have time to remove it and apply regular make-up. I loved it for my wedding day (60 degrees no humidity). I cried a ton and it didn't streak at all.

I think airbrush or traditional totally depends on the formula of makeup and makeup artist. I've had airbrush as a bridesmaid in two weddings..the first was FLAWLESS! it stayed all day, looked pretty/dewey, made my skin look like porcelain. Second time was a DISASTER! It made me look old, oily and showed every single pore magnified X10. I ended up washing it off before the ceremony even started and re doing my makeup myself after paying $80 for it.

For my wedding- my MUA did not trust the longevity of airbrush-so we did traditional and I couldn't have been happier with the result.

Whoever you go with, I highly suggest several trials with them to make sure you like what they do and that it hold up well. Mine did my make up for engagement pics, bridal portraits, a random date night...and the wedding.

ETA: PP that made the comment about weather and airbrush....that totally makes sense- the one I loved was in winter, no humidity, the one I hated was august and no lie felt like Satan's breath of fire all day.

Traditional foundation all the way! I used to be the makeup artist at a salon that required us to use airbrush and it streaks, and only looks great if your skin is already clear, even, and has good texture.

I did a trial for my engagement photos (at the end of the month, yay!) And I said about airbrush. My MUA actually said she didn't think it was the best idea because of the way my skin is now. She said I had pretty even colored and smooth skin. She had said the airbrush gun was more for if you need all over coverage, which i didnt need. Or something to that extent. She did it traditionally and it turned out great, and i didnt need a lot, so it was super light. I think you should ask your MUA for their opinion.

My future MIL had airbrush makeup done and it exaggerated fine lines

I did airbrush, it came out very well. My sister/MOH also did airbrush and it didn't look so well on her (it highlighted her mustache when I didn't even notice it before!). So I guess if your face has a lot of lines/ scars/ little hairs, standard makeup might be better.

I did airbrush and loooooooooooooooooooooooooved it. My skin looked gorgeous and amazing all night, despite the fact that I was basically a sweat factory. But I think it is ALWAYS a good idea to give it a test run in a trial to make sure it works well for your skin and that your MUA is good at it. I do know for some skin types it just does not work as well, or for someone with fine lines like @staci mentioned, it can emphasize those lines.

I did airbrush twice, once for my trial and once for my engagement pics and I loved it so much! It stayed perfect for at least 12 hours. My mom had it done for a trial and hated it, it does tend to settle into fine lines if you have any but I absolutely loved mine.

I have had 3 makeup trials and all 3 times had airbrush. I LOVED it. It felt way lighter and made my skin look flawless. I do think I'm going to wax my whole face though because it kind of accentuated my face fuzz.

I don't know from experience, but I heard that if you have naturally oily skin than airbrush is normally not for you.

THANKS LADIES!!!! I'm going to have to defiantly do a trial run! What makes it difficult is some artist only do one or the other!!!!

If your doing airbrushed makeup your MUA needs to know what they are doing!!!!! I'm sure they all say they do, but if you have had a bad experience with it this was probably why. A professional will have a portfolio of their work for you to see how amazing it is!
