Airbnb or Vrbo receptions

Amy, on March 29, 2019 at 11:51 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 12
We're most likely going to have the reception at a rental property in Steamboat, CO and have our bridal party stay there. Just wondering how others went about booking their venue in this fashion?

I would be very careful about this I’m booking an Airbnb for me and my bridesmaids the night before to stay in and get ready the morning off but it says you can’t have a party. a lot of Airbnb’s won’t allow big party’s or gatherings.

I may be wrong, but I'm pretty sure Routt County or Steamboat passed some strict legislation regarding rental properties, so I'm not sure you can host large events at rental properties not zoned & insured for events?

If you can do this, I’d make sure you have a contract separate from the rental one as most rentals can be cancelled much closer to the date for any reason the owner wants.

Thanks I just looked into that. The top 3 favorite properties we are going to ask about are on small ranches with no neighbors, but I'll have to watch the regulations and make a back up plan...

I just googled it and she’s correct. My town has the same ban. They don’t allow home rentals for less than 30 days.

Routt County doesn't allow any nightly rentals in the county (outside of city limits,) so these would be illegal nightly rentals. I would steer clear of this.

What about the properties that are owned by actual rental companies? I ran across 2 of these in Clark that are short term but are not privately owned. Do you think that means it would be illegal to rent? I'll have to ask them about the ban.

There are guest ranches in Clark, that would be a different type of rental. Owner-rented properties are the ones that aren't allowed. I would recommend calling the planning department at the county before you book something if you are worried about it.

I will 100% have to verify with the county department but 2 out of 3 of our top places are "vacation retals" specifically so hopefully at least one work out. Im glad I asked you ladies because I've never even heard of a ban like this.

We wanted to do this at first near where we live, but all the properties we found if you click under “House Rules” they all said “No parties or events”. Very few places will let you rent for a wedding due to the liability. I know that’s not what you wanted to hear, but I’m sure you’ll find somewhere awesome.
