ahh! i can't find an officiant!

dme_cjm, on January 22, 2010 at 8:02 PM Posted in Planning 0 17

I've been looking for 2 weeks and can't find an officiant. They are either too expensive (because of travel) booked, or only do certain religions. We are looking for someone in the Somerset, PA area who can do a non-religious ceremony. Any suggestions?

I know this sounds practical but good non denominational minister and the area you are looking and lots will show up. Or try asking you venue if they have any referrals for someone which is a good sign because then you can know they are reliable.

I asked my venue and they gave me the name of a catholic reverend, a judge who will only do it in their office, and a mayor of a local resort town I cannot get a hold of. Oh, and the also gave me the number of a guy who is really good, in our town, but can't give me phone number or even street name because they don't have it. I was not happy with them at all. They are booked every fri-sun from may till October and can't help me find an officiant?!

Ask a relative or close friend to get ordained. You can do it for free at http://www.themonastery.org/?destination=ordination

Only problem is that if they don't have any previous experience, you'll pretty much have to write your own ceremony (or yoink a general one from online), but that can always be a fun way to make your wedding even more unique.

Sorry...is that bad? Someone gave it to me awhile back when I was thinking about having my friend ordained.

HAHAHA! I'm right there with you, Hun. Ask my family to...what? Pssh! No way. lol.

So no close friends or trustworthy acquaintances or anything you can think of? I mean, if you can get them ordained through ULC, then you can potentially have a free officiant. I mean, assuming they're willing to do it as a favor/their gift to you. TONS of my broke @$$ friends have agreed to do me little helpfuls like this as their gift.

I am gonna try 2 more people tomorrow and then go from there. I looked into a few people from Pittsburgh but they wanted like $300 plus 2.5 hours travel each way. My budget cannot afford that. Im checking with local churches tomorrow. My friends doing it is a LAST resort! Nice wedding date BTW Smiley smile

My officiant was my favorite vendor. She literally made my ceremony special. I would have spent less on flowers, hotel, rehearsal dinner, gifts, cake, programs to keep her. But it depends on your priorities and how long or unique your ceremony will be.

Have you looked on the vendor area here. I really can't help much because I live clear across country but I had over 20 officiants come up when I put in your information.

Have you checked into local judges. I am going to ask a local judge in town.

@shdvl-i looked on here. it brought up ones from like philly and other states like MD and DC. The travel costs will kill me. My location is like right beside flight 93 memorial. I checked with 2 today and they will only do them at their office and I am having my ceremony at my reception site.
