After Wedding Dinner

Hey guys I had the idea of hosting a dinner after the ceremony where everyone would purchase their own dinner which would be budget appropriate for us. My question is has anyone else done this before and how did it turn out ? Were guest offended or did they not show

Don't listen to Maria, potluck is no different than making your guests pay for their meal, they still have to buy ingredients. And you never know how sanitary they were.

Oh good. Someone suggested a potluck. That's a terrible idea.

You said you'd have your guests pay for themselves. That's rude.

Don't do a potluck. Last potluck at my office, multiple people went home sick. So gross.

No no no no no. Do not listen to Maria unless you are willing to pay your "guests'" hospital bills when they get food poisoning or an allergic reaction to the peanuts in Aunt Sandy's Surprise Salad.

No, you don't ask people to pay for your party. You also don't ask people to supply food for your party. Have the event that you can afford. You've been given several suggestions.

Let me ask this: would you invite friends over for pizza night and then expect them to pay the pizza guy? Of course not! This is the same thing: if you invite folks out to eat, you pay for it. If you can't afford it, don't invite them. Very simple.

Uh yeah really, Iesha. You think people can't get food poisoning? People have died at church potlucks.

Right but EC17 was telling you not to listen to Maria, who had suggested a potluck. Regardless, your idea is just as tacky.

Yes, really. If you read my comment, I said not to do a potluck (as was suggested by another user) unless you were prepared for hospital visits and admissions due to food poisoning and/or allergic reactions. I was not exaggerating, was not joking, and was dead serious.

So have I. We went found out we had to pay just as we walked in. Turned around and left and had a very nice dinner with the money that I was going to gift the couple.

Champagne and cake would be awesome. Have it at a non meal time and it will be wonderful.

I have seen all sorts of tacky shit at weddings, but I certainly won't be following their example. It doesn't make it any less tacky just because someone else did it.
