After the Reception

KimandLarry, on July 17, 2019 at 9:00 AM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 13

So we are having an open bar at our reception. I'm wondering if anyone else is worried about people driving after drinking all evening and if so what are some ways to prevent this from happening?

For those staying in the hotel block, we are providing a shuttle to and from the venue. Otherwise, it's mostly trusting the bartenders to be professionals and cut people off who look like they've had enough and adults are responsible enough to understand their limits. Some people will close the bar like a half hour early, but I don't know if that would actually do anything. It takes the body approximately 1 hour to metabolize 1 alcoholic beverage.

A good bartender will know when people have had too much to drink. Also, I think the shuttle idea from PP is great!

I will have an event through either uber or lyft (haven't decided which one yet). Basically how it works is I have a code that I can give guests, and I can allocate money to each guest, so say 10 dollars per guest. They use my code and get a ride up to 10 dollars on me, which is enough to get to all of the hotels in the area! If they want to go further, they just cover the difference.

Your bartender should know when to cut people off. We are having a shuttle to and from our hotel block for guests for this exact reason. Most of our local guests that want to have drinks will stay at the hotel for this reason.

We are doing the same thing for our local guests. We have a shuttle for everyone staying at our hotel to prevent anything terrible from happening but I know not everyone is staying. We are going to add it to our website with accommodations, display our code on a sign as guests leave as well as have the DJ announce it as an option when he announces the dance floor opens.

Nope. Our guests are adults and they know how to take care of themselves. I trust that they can make good decisions. If you have a hotel block, you could look into a shuttle.

That's why we decided to host our reception at a hotel. It was an unfamiliar area to almost all of our guests and figured it was the best and most convenient option.

But shuttles are a good idea if you're super concerned.

Thanks ladies. We're not really doing a hotel block. Most of the family from out of town will be staying with other family in the area so no need for a hotel. My husband is a truck driver and the company he works for has shuttle vans so I think we're going to look into borrowing a few for the guests who have a little too much to drink.

If your venue wants to keep their liquor license they'll know when to cut people off.

Same with other posters, we're all adults and should know how to act.

You could serve a protein snack and fresh coffee about 30-45 minutes before the end. Ideas: sliders, chicken & waffles, grilled cheese bites, pigs in a blanket.

I don't think you can - but you can protect yourself from liability buy adding a rider to your current insurance policy.

We have a hotel that is 1/2 a mile from the venue, and on side roads. We'll also have a bunch of underage drivers that can shuttle back and forth if necessary.
