After Party Etiquette - Open bar?

Because of noise ordinances, our reception must wrap up by 10pm. Which is fine, it starts at 5 and we are hosting an open bar - so 5 hours is plenty! Because of noise ordinances, our reception must wrap up by 10pm. Which is fine, it starts at 5 and we are hosting an open bar - so 5 hours is plenty! But, FH and the groomsmen (and a couple of my bridesmaids!) are... enthusiastic about their partying. So, we rented out a small restaurant/bar a block from the hotel from 10pm-2am and hired a techno DJ with a lights show. We will be offering late night snacks. Everyone is invited to come and stay as long as they please. I will be changing out of my gown and into something more casual. The bridal party is invited to do the same and they are NOT required to attend this. I know my sisters will want to get back to their little ones and my best friend does not like late nights (honestly, neither do I. I'm in bed with a good book by 9 most nights). But FH never wants a party to end, so his BM and I wanted a way for the day to last a little longer.

Here is my question: Do we need to host another open bar for the after party?! ...

We are just telling the DJ to make an announcement close to the end of the reception . Since it will be at Hooter's guest are responsible for their own eats and beverages. We are also having a 4th of July celebration Monday and everything is on us for that .

I would be more than happy to buy my own drinks at an after party and have always done so. I think some people expect way too much when it comes to food and drink at weddings and the related events.

I mean I wouldn't but I guess it's up to you. I mean I let you drink as much as you want for 5 hours. You can buy yourself a drink or 2 on your own dime

    We didn't.

At first we were going to but then we felt like it was crazy to be hosting this thousands of dollars event with 5 hours of open bar to then host more for thousands more!

We ended up just inviting everyone to join us at our local beer garden. It worked our great, about 30 people showed up and no one had an issue (or said they did) about paying for their own drinks. The beer garden was also pretty cheap.

No. you certainly don't have to, or even tell anyone there will be anything provided by you (including snacks). We are having an after party but its more so bar hopping on Bourbon street with whoever wants to join. I doubt I will stay out long. We plan to go for about an hour, just long enough for the group to get together & then leave for the night. That way whoever else in the group who wants to stay out can.
