Afraid to pull the trigger and pay deposits.

Sara, on September 11, 2019 at 7:13 AM Posted in Planning 0 21
I found a great and affordable dj... Fiance and I love him, and I don't want to keep looking. I spoke with 3 dj's and him and I had the best conversation and he has been totally helpful and responsive.

Yesterday we met with a really great photography company. We spoke with the owner and the head photographer who would be assigned to our wedding. Again that were amazing. The email communication has been great and the in person meeting was just great. They both were so helpful and so into our wedding. They are crazy diligent about backing up files and pictures, they bring extra equipment, they fully vet and test and hire the second shotters. We just really meshed well and they are excited for our wedding. Oo and said they 100% would help with time-line and just figuring out any ideas we have since we are doing diy wedding.

So we both feel really great about both people and company's. I'm just afraid to sign the contracts and send the deposits. Idk why. It's just a lot of money and seems so far away. I know it's not really that far, but it feels like it.

Anyone else feel that way?

It can definitely be a little nerve wracking to finally put the money down, but you're less than a year from your date and it sounds like you really like these people, so I say go for it! Trust me - it's such a relief to finally get things booked.

I was also nervous about committing to certain vendors at first, but I kept telling myself "You love this place/person/company, why are you hesitating?". Sometimes it just takes a minute to talk yourself through, you don't want to miss out on having these awesome vendors!

At some point you have to put down the deposit. You’re less than a year away so they’ll book someone else on your date if you don’t commit.

I’m having a really hard time settling on venues to even go look at in a few months xD there isn’t even any money involved yet, but I keep wondering “what if there’s something better that will pop up right after I sign the dotted line? I have to keep looking” and that won’t get me (or you Smiley tongue) anywhere. If you really love them, I wouldn’t wait, there’d be nothing worse than building up the courage to finally do it, and someone else swooped in right before you and the vendor is no longer available

I think it’s good that you’re being cautious. So many people don’t sign contracts or don’t vet their vendors so it’s awesome that you’re being diligent. But if you’ve done the research and love your vendors there’s no reason not to move forward and PPs are right, if you don’t you may lose your vendors if you don’t follow-up.

I definitely felt that way when I had sent in most of my deposits last month! But it’s better to send the deposits now knowing that they are reserving the day for you. I just had to keep that in mind. I’ve already missed out on one great company so if you see something you’re really interested in with a lot of great reviews, don’t hesitate with the deposits.

I felt that way for a little bit. so I kept looking for a month or two. And then I realized that I hated the whole process of researching and contacting vendors, so I put down the deposits lol

Yes, it is nerve-wracking for sure!! These are big commitments, and should not be taken lightly. However, you are only 9 months out, and vendors get booked, and you don't want to lose your date with these great vendors because you're feeling nervous. It sounds like you've done your research, and picked vendors that are great for you. Sometimes you just have to take a deep breath, and jump!! I haven't seen any red flags in your posts about this, so I say GO FOR IT!! Smiley love

I totally understand your hesitation. FH had to rip a good chunk of the checks out of my hand when it came to putting down deposits because they we're so much money. But, its the only way to ensure you get the vendor team you want. Its hard to find people who you trust completely, so if you, go for it!

FH an I met with a DJ that we both loved and we took a day to sleep on it and think it over before I put down the deposit and once he sent the contract over he also told me someone messaged him 30 minutes after we paid for the same date. I know it is a lot but if you absolutely love them then I would finalize everything before someone else booked them

Totally understand where you’re coming from. I’ve been there! But it’s good to book stuff early! Just make sure you do your due diligence about the photographer and make sure they’re your style!

I know it seems daunting and a huge comm but please set those feelings aside and book them if you love them!!! We took a day to mull over our 2 venue options and the day after we toured the venue to let them know we would proceed with them, they told us somebody had booked it!!! We ended up moving our date up a week to stay with that venue.

It's super nerve wracking! But if you absolutely know this is what you want, go for it. The first deposit is the hardest. After that, you'll feel more confident!

Don't fear! This happens to a lot of people. I also started planning my wedding a year prior and it felt so strange, almost wrong to start choosing vendors, etc. As long as you absolutely are sure about your date and venue, I think it's a great thing to get vendors hired early! A lot of the time people wait until a few months before and they either get stuck with someone that they don't mesh well with or with someone out of their price range! You go girl!!

We are totally sure about the date and venue... We paid for that already. Actually we paid for that in full like 10 minutes after I got the email saying we were approved for the date!

I think part of my feelings is the whole bit about hurry up and decide or you'll miss out... Its a stupid extra layer of pressure.

That's so understandable! It's a lot of money and there is always a fear that maybe there's another better deal out there but if you've done a lot of research already and feel with your gut that it's a good vendor, go for it Smiley smile
