Advice PLEASE on reception and ball gowns!

Javeya, on February 8, 2017 at 10:43 AM Posted in Wedding Attire 1 35

Hi guys! Whew it's been awhile since I've been on... thanks to optometry school. Past brides or future brides with insight: my wedding dress is a ball gown and I love love love it! Do you guys have any advice on how to maneuver during the reception like eating and going to the restroom?

I considered a 2nd dress, but I don't really want to change and my mom thinks I won't have enough time during the reception. (I really think that was just her excuse for me not to change lol)

Following. I'm not too concerned about moving and eating and what not once I have it hemmed properly and then the bustle added for the reception, but I'd love to hear about going to the bathroom; I'd rather not have my bms help me.

I had a big a-line, and it wasn't a big deal at all during the reception. I didn't have to go to the bathroom at all so that wasn't an issue for me, but I've read that when you go just face the toilet the other direction. So basically, hold up your entire dress and sit on it backward facing the wall, and just make sure all your layers are out of the way. That way you can go to the bathroom by yourself lol.

A bustle is nice for walking at the reception but I still had to hold my dress down a little when squeezing between tables.

No advice sorry, but can you post a pic of your dress? Sorry I love the ball gown look. I agree with Kate make sure they add a good bustle. Maybe have someone help hold the dress for going to the restroom?

I've heard of this thing called the Bridal Buddy, it looks ridiculous but it could also be really helpful. Your dress is gorgeous by the way!

I was the MOH for my best friends wedding. She had a ball gown. She asked me if I'd mind helping her in the bathroom. Two of us holding up her dress seemed to work just fine.

I had a big poofy ballgown. As long as you have it hemmed and a bustle you will be fine moving around and sitting to eat. I did have to have people help me in the bathroom but I only went twice I believe so it wasn't all that bad.

Mine is a slightly big A-line, I've thought about this too but I feel like with a good bustle it won't be too difficult to maneuver around and have a blast Smiley smile

Beautiful dress and I like the idea of the bridal buddy idea, to make sure that its out of your way. Its not too poofy on you though. Its actually pretty decent. It could be worse.

Thanks everyone you guys are awesom!! Smiley smile)

I'm a real potty goer... especially with a few drinks haha. I'll give it a run the first few times with some help and see about how much I can get bustled.

I had a big ballgown also. I didn't really have much trouble at the reception. It was bustled off the ground. I used the bathroom right before putting the dress on so I never went while wearing it. Here is the back before and after the bustle.

Add a good bustle. When you have to go to the bathroom, sit backwards. And put a napkin over your dress while eating- and avoid any red foods!
