ADVICE: Online Premarital Counseling?

Syd A., on February 8, 2012 at 5:36 PM Posted in Planning 0 7

Has anyone done this? What site did you use? Is it better, worse, or the same as doing it in person?

I can't say that I've ever heard of such a thing before. But I truly think that it is more brneficial to do this in person than online. You're taking a course that will help u prepare for a lifetime commitment why take the chance.

Yeah but the problem is that FH and I work opposite shifts, so we only see each other for like 3 hours everyday. So it would be much easier for us to do it online.

I'm in Florida and they offer a lot of the online counseling courses. They are all preset by the state and cover the 4 hour commitment if you're just doing it to comply. If you want a real counseling session I'd say the best would be in person.

Online is better than nothing, but a pastor or long-married older couple with similar values would be best, even if you only meet for an hour once or twice a month.

If you do online, look for good premarriage discussion books to help you focus, like 1001 ?s Before Getting Married.

Thanks. We can't do it in person. We went through a lot in the months leading up to the wedding so I know we are cutting it close. And since our schedules are opposite, it's difficult for us to even see each other during the week. So online is our best bet. To top it off - we don't know any long-married older couples and my pastor is in a nursing home now.

My fiance and I decided to take the online route and had a nice experience. There were a lot of interesting topics and we both feel like we got a lot out of the process. We're in Florida and took the online premarital course with envisionlove.com. When we finished the course, we just printed the certificate to take to the courthouse. We didn't have any problems when we went there to get the marriage license, the clerk seemed pretty familiar with the company. We checked to make sure that they were approved before we took the course, so we already knew it would be fine though. Ultimately, we thought it was a nice way to just spend some time together and chat.
