Advice for One Week Before the Big Day

Courtney, on August 5, 2022 at 10:35 PM Posted in Planning 1 6
Our wedding date is next Saturday, August 13th! 🤯 We got engaged last July and have endured a lot of life changes between when we booked our venue last August and now — most of our planning didn’t start until after Memorial Day of this year! It’s been a stressful 9 weeks of doing a year’s worth of planning, but I’m feeling good about how much we’ve accomplished. I wish I’d had more bandwidth to plan more sooner, and I wish I’d gotten on Wedding Wire sooner.

I can’t go back in time, but I can ask for advice for where I’m at now. For those of you that have already tied the knot — what advice do you have for the final countdown? Anything you wish you’d done differently the week leading up to your wedding? Anything you overlooked? Perspective?

    Congratulations! 🎊 🥳
Will it be a destination wedding or in your home town? For me, a month leading up to it, it was the small things were the most stressful since it was a destination wedding. I was stressed about the name cards, plates, chairs, SIGNS. What can I bring with me without ruining or damaging it. During my last week, I decided to let it be. I entrusted the vendors to carry out my vision based on our communications and plan.

-Have a check list - shoes, undergarments, jewelry, accessories, card box, etc - designate a person of contact for the day if you do not have a wedding coordinator or planner. Say for instance, the florist has a question about placement they can call that person and not bother you with it. -most importantly on the day, don’t stress over the small stuff if something goes wrong. No one will notice! And just enjoy the day.

I’m so excited for you!! We married August 14th! If I could do it again, I would have mapped out exactly when my girls walk down the aisle to the music (worked out for me in the end but made the rehearsal chaotic). One of the best things I did was all the vendors had each other’s contact info (if a vendor gets locked out of the venue, florist needs to know when cake arrives to put flowers on it, etc.).
Eat well and stay healthy leading up to give you energy and stamina. It is very true that if a flower is out of place in the day or a wrinkle in a dress, if you don’t acknowledge it and keep smiling, no one is the wiser 😉 Good luck ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you! It’s a destination wedding in the sense that it’s in the mountains 2 hours from home (and the nearest airport for out-of-towners). It’s funny that you mention signs, because I woke up in the middle of the night thinking about signs and to an email from my stepmom asking about more signs 😂

Fortunately, I do have a day of coordinator who has been encouraging me to rely on him more leading up to the big day. I’ve just been anxious about staying hands on until I know everything has been addressed. The advice of a checklist and letting the remaining details be/leaving it in the hands of the coordinator is all good advice! Thank you!

This is all very good advice! Thank you!!! I didn’t even think about giving all of the vendors each other’s info, but that makes perfect sense as they are sharing spaces, etc. The tip of self care/health is an important reminder, too. I’ve been prioritizing planning and “just one more thing” or “I just need to reply to these emails” over regular meals and skincare and it’s beginning to show. 🤦🏻‍♀️

My suggestion is go onto Pinterest and type in decor checklist to make sure you’re not missing any small details you may be regretting later.
