Advice for a July 2020 brides and covid-19

Corine, on April 23, 2020 at 1:40 AM Posted in Community Conversations 0 4
Our wedding date is July 19 2020. . . Or should I say was. We lost my brother, uncle and a few cousins to covid-19 and I feel that we need to postpone. I'm devastated. Before my brother lost his battle to covid-19 he was supposed to marry us and said that we were going to have a beautiful wedding and marriage and explained how we were doing this the right way. We have been planning for 2 years and dating for 11 years and EVERYTHING is on hold. I'm not sure we will met the 70 guest guarentee make since family is in different states, the fear of traveling, the gathering ban. I'm not sure my dress will be able to be altered in time, flowers ordered, invites sent, hair and make up etc. . . . My SO stated that we will be married no matter what. I just don't know what's my next step or what to do.
Postpone? Wait it out? Small ceremony just 10 people? Alternate dress?

I am so so sorry for your losses. I think right now the best thing to do may be to just take a step back and allow yourself to grieve. If you need, plenty of therapists have moved to tele-health and are providing services over the phone and through video messaging. You have time before you need to make a decision. Allow yourself to process these losses. My heart goes out to you and your family ❤.

I personally would continue with a small ceremony this year and then postpone reception for next. But do whatever works best for you. Take some more time to decide- you have been through a lot. All the best to you.

I'm so so sorry for your losses Corine. My heart goes out to you and your family! ❤️

Would postponing a few months give you more time to grieve before having to figure out Plan B wedding plans? We've also seen a lot of WeddingWire couples going ahead with a private ceremony on their original date (or the earliest they can get a marriage license!) and postponing the big reception for later in the year. You can see pictures from some of their recent weddings here: Last week's wedding photos, engagement pictures, and more!

It also might be helpful to talk to other July brides and see what they're thinking! I've seen a lot of July brides sharing their concerns in these discussions:
