We have some people on our guest list that are in long term relationships with people we're not necessarily close with or really talk to. They also live with their S/O's. Do I address it to the person that one of us are actually close with and say "and guest"?
OR

Do I address it to both of them by name?

Most unmarried couples that we are inviting, we knew both sides very well so we just stuck to what we thought (but apparently I was mistaken) to be tradition.

If it's a long term relationship and you've met the S.O., I'd definitely put their name on the invitation. I know when my FH and I were still fairly early on (maybe a little less than a year?) in our relationship, we got invited to a wedding of one of his friends and my name was on it, too. It meant the world to me. You can really make someones day by including them.

STDs are not invites, just notice that an invite will be coming. Of course, the actual invite should have the name of the invited guest and his or her spouse/fiancé/SO (however you define that). Right now, OP has to be ready to tell invited guests, will they get their SO, date or whatever.

We addressed ours to both people. If they were married, Mr and Mrs Smith and if they were dating, we used both of their full names, John Smith and Jane Doe.

Thank you all so much for your advice. I have another question regarding this matter. I have some friends who are in serious relationships, but the two do not live together. Again, not really close to their S/O's. Do I just send one invitation (to the friend) and put both names on it? Or should I send two separate invitations to them individually?
