Adding a bit of color to my dress!

I have a rather traditional wedding dress. It wasn't what I originally thought I wanted, but we found it at a really great deal, and when I put it on I felt pretty, like a bride! The only thing I would change is adding some color. Probably navy blue. I've been thinking about how to add color, but am having some trouble.

We are on a tight budget and tight timeline, which means DIY, which I don't mind at all, but I have really no ideas. I thought about adding a dark lace shirt as pictured, but I don't like how it looks.

I am thinking of replacing the lace up ribbon in the back to navy instead of white. I also purchased some navy blue flowers, and thought about adding them to the bottom, but I can't decide if I should or how to place them.

Nothing about us is traditional. My fiancee and I have been together 8 years and have 2 children together. I feel I want our wedding day to represent use, and we are not traditional. Ideas?

Thanks OGJaci! Will get my profile pic changed tonight and will be sure to post an update once we figure out what to do! Smiley smile

Matt - no worries! The black lace is an independent shirt I wore under the dress just to see how it looked Smiley smile

Try a colored sash or ribboned belt. That's what I want to do to add color to mine. Send pics I want to see how it turns out

Another idea besides the belt/sash (which is a good idea) would be to get some good statement jewelry to add some color or interest. Also, really easy to do!

I love @Martins idea! Using bold colors in your bouquet and jewelry would be a great way to add some colorful visual interest, and it would be easier than adding something to the actual dress!

Definitely go with the laces. I was going to do it if I had found a corset back, but my dress is button up with illusion lace, so it doesn't work. But another fun option is colored shoes. They'll peek out from under your (gorgeous!) skirt and be a fun twist.

Also liking the Navy shoes idea.

I am going to be wearing royal blue shoes for my wedding.

Colored sash, colored bolero, colored accessories, colored shoes. I like the traditional white look, personally. I would stick to using only one of the above choices at a time. The laces Idea is the best, in my opinion!

What do you think about a fascinator? You can get them for $30 on Amazon in any color you want.
