A wedding, the Derby, & hats?

I just realized my wedding date falls on the same day as the Kentucky Derby. Our theme is already vintage garden. I jokingly threw the idea out there of wearing garden/Derby hats to the wedding and several of my guest love it! (Normally, we attend a Derby party every year and wear our hats) I know...

I just realized my wedding date falls on the same day as the Kentucky Derby. Our theme is already vintage garden. I jokingly threw the idea out there of wearing garden/Derby hats to the wedding and several of my guest love it! (Normally, we attend a Derby party every year and wear our hats) I know for a fact my mom is wearing a gorgeous birdcage.

What are your thoughts on brides wearing them now? I just found this and I think it's stunning (insert heart eye emojis)! My dress is a similar style and I'm not crazy over a veil anyway...

    I have a good friend who had a Kentucky Derby wedding. Her wedding invitations even suggested to guests to "wear their best hat."

    I love the idea but my photographer was adamant about no hats!! Her reasoning is the brim is such that you can't see your face and should you take it off - there is the hat head!! Made sense to me.

    Thanks for all the support! I talked to my mom and sister this evening and we decided that we are going to do the hats for photos (with & without). I will not wear a hat during the ceremony but I am thinking a group pic during the reception of all the ladies with their hats would be awesome! I did tweak my dress this evening. I'm thinking of maybe doing blue heels and a blue hat for fun...I still need to look around.
