a wedding on the day before Father's Day?

Sara, on November 9, 2018 at 3:55 PM Posted in Planning 0 10

I think I have found my dream venue. We go tomorrow, hopefully to put down a deposit and pick the date. They're running specials on May and June 2019. We have the option of picking from a few Fridays in May, or ONLY ONE Saturday left either month - it's Saturday June 15 2019, the day before Father's day.

We aren't planning on inviting little kids (adult-only wedding), but truthfully, they're aren't that many little kids in my family (it would only affect 2 households, who probably won't come anyway). The venue price: A Friday May/June wedding is $1,000 less than a Saturday May/June wedding.

What do you think, a Friday wedding, or a Father's Day weekend wedding?

I chose a Sunday because it was the best price. I dont think Fathers Day Weekend will be a make or break for most people, unless you actually did it on Fathers day. If I was in your situation I would do the Friday and save the $1000. Smiley heart

I agree with Jen! However, if you have the budget and really want the Saturday date, then go for it!

You shouldn't run into any problems with vendors for father's day weekend. I think most people have a very low key father's day plans, at least in my family. Word of warning, if you change your wedding to Mother's Day weekend most if not all florists have higher prices and it's the busiest flower weekend of the year (bigger than valentine's day).

I was on a wedding this summer the day before Father’s Day and really didn’t think twice. I know with my friends and family fathers dad is pretty lowkey so the entire weekend doesn’t need to revolve around it. If guests are traveling it may impact them a bit more, so you might want to consider that if most people are coming from out of town. I always prefer a Saturday to Friday, just so most people (that work business hours anyway) don’t have to take time off work if the wedding is local.

I think the only issue with this might be in future years when your anniversary falls on Fathers Day. If that doesn’t bother you or your FH then I say go for it!

We've been married 30+ years, but we got married on the Saturday before Father's Day Sunday. I wasn't as issue then, and it hasn't been in the 30+ years since....

Not sure between the Friday/Saturday thing. That’s up to you. Friday’s, most people can’t get off work so if you’re trying to cut ur guest list (and costs) i’d say say your I do’s on Friday not Saturday. However you Anniversary day of the week changes every single year... are you okay with possibly celebrating your anniversary on Father’s Day for x amount of times for the rest of your lives? I looked it up and I’m pretty sure for the next ten years it lands on the 15th one time but it never lands on the 14th. Look it up to be sure.

Oh also if it’s a destination wedding where people have to stay in a hotel or drive longer than 3-4 hours keep in mind they might have a long drive to see their dads on Sunday if they don’t get to leave the day before.

My wedding date is June 15. I don’t think it makes a difference if it’s near Fathers Day, other than the fact that I’m super excited to have my dad walk me down the aisle on Fathers Day weekend. 💕
