A rehearsal......breakfast?

starlette7886, on September 25, 2010 at 7:11 PM Posted in Planning 0 26

So here's the deal: I can't do a rehearsal the night before at my venue unless I rent the venue for that night. We are allowed into our venue as early as 8 am on the day of our renewal. I am thinking that I can have everyone get together at about 9am (since everyone has hair, nail, etc. appointments starting at around 11am-ish) and do a quick rehearsal, and then serve breakfast to everyone before we all go our seperate ways for our appointements and to get dressed. Our ceremony isn't until 5:30 that evening. I plan on getting some bagel and breakfast sandwich platters, some fruit platters, OJ, coffee, and milk to feed everyone a good breakfast so that they have energy to make it through the day.

Has anyone else ever done this? What do you guys think?

I like the idea, but I'd start it a bit earlier. Start at 8:30 so everyone has time to sit and eat before they have to rush off to their appointments. Hopefully your rehearsal will go smoothly, but I've been at one that lasted over 4 hours because people (read: GMs and BMs) didn't want to cooperate and the minister did not take control and left it up to the Bride to run her rehearsal.

If you can't afford a place how about doing the dinner at a friend or relatives house the night before. maybe do a potluck or do all the food yourself. like something inexpensive like a pasta dinner. Just a thought.

I think thats a great idea to provide for them the morning of. I wouldn't make it to big, just some danishes, juice and coffee. Don't want to get them stuffed then everyone will wanna go back to sleep(I know I would) hehe.

Rachel-I was planning on doing a dinner at my house (and I was gonna cook lol) but the issue is I don't have access to my venue (which is where the ceremony AND reception will be held) the night before to...well...rehearse lol.

We did a rehearsal brunch because we couldn't do our rehearsal in the afternoon/evening and our guests really loved it, and the food was great. I say go for it!

I'm going to respectfully disagree with danish, juice and coffee. The reason...I speak as someone with blood sugar issues. If I arrived at a breakfast with only sugar, I'd be in real trouble.

Kristina, do you have to rehearse at your venue? I know that it is best, due to timing the walk down the aisle and all. Perhaps you could measure the aisle distance and have the rehearsal at the same place that you have dinner.

Kathy I think you misread what she said, she was going to have bagels and breakfast sandwiches too. I think that is more than fine. There are more options than simply sugar. Smiley smile I totally agree with you though, I wouldn't serve just sugary things.

Oh, duh, sorry I must have missed the other comment about just danishes. Sorry. Smiley smile Yeah just danishes will just give everyone a sugar high and then they will crash. I dont see anything wrong with bagels and things like that. It wont be too much of a hassle and would take minutes to get ready. Smiley smile

Kathy-I would say that i would totally do what you are suggesting, but we have little ones in our WP, and I'm concerned that if we rehearse in one place and the ceremony is in another, they are going to be completely confused and frustrated. You know hoe little ones get. I've seen it happen before and I'm really concerned about it happening to my little ones. I just want what's best for them.

I didn't mean for it to be Just Sugar. I meant just something lite and not to heavy.

I like the idea, but can you change your hair/makeup/nail appointments to 9:30 or 10a since your ceremony isn't til 5:30p? That should still give you plenty of time.

You could even get your nails done the night before to save time (that's what I'll be doing as my ceremony starts at noon and we are taking our formal pics at 10am).

Celena - I'm with you on not too heavy, I would definitely be going back to bed for a nap.

@Celena, that I can work with. LOL! Just add some protein. LOL!

@Kristina, I understand, about needing to be at the venue to rehearse. So, now I ponder. LOL! How about rehearsing after the breakfast hour (say 10AM), yet having a rehearsal dinner the night before?

Or, if you love breakfast/brunch ideas, go for it!

And PS, I do not know how little ones get as I have only had one, my daughter, and she was so easy. Other than her, I am not a fan of kids and have not been around many. :-)

I was thinking about having everyone show up and eat from 8 until 9:30-ish, and since our rehearsal will be all of maybe an hour, we'll all be out of there by about 11-ish and will all make our 12:30 appointments (I had to re-check the time lol) and will be just fine. The only thing the guys are doing is going to the barber to get trimmed up and shaved and us girls are going to the nail salon pedis and manis (or in my case, a pink and white refill, pedi w/ a peacock feather design on my big toe, and a facial wax cuz I'm a princess lol) and then it's back to the venue for hair and make-up, so I think the timeline will work itself out. At least I pray it will..... :\

My only concern with this idea is that your rehearsal will be over an hour- there is no question about that, especially with kids involved.

I love the idea though! But like many have suggested, try to keep the sugars to a minimum, since it will only make people more tired towards teh end of the day. Fruits, bagels, etc will be great! Esepcially if you can get some stuff that people can grab to eat on the run.

The schedule does seem a bit tight. Try to see if hair appts, etc can be moved back maybe half an hour or so and get together at 8:30. Start promptly, and eat after- that way, if the rehearsal runs long- you will still be ok.

I think your idea sounds great although to save time I would have your ideas documented out and possibly send them to your BP ahead of time so that you're not spending too much time trying to 'cold' figure out how everything is going to go. I agree too that you might want to bump your appointments back because you don't know if you might run a little late during the rehearsal. I wouldn't want you to have to that added stress on your day!

I had actually considered taking platters to the salons for both sides of the wedding party so they could eat while they were doing whatever, but I dunno how that would work :\

Leave it up to me (the one who helps plan weddings for a living) to be the different and unique one, right?

What about having 'sack breakfast' or a prepping a sack lunch for them to take with them throughout the day so they can eat whenever they need to?

I had thought about that to. I saw an episode of "Barefoot Contessa" the other day where Ina did these amazing gourmet "to-go" breakfasts and lunches. The breakfast had a granola bar, a breakast sandwich, a yogurt, and an individual milk and OJ; the lunch had lobster rolls, couscus salad, and a water in them. To me, those sound simple enough to do the night before for 20 adults and 4 kids....
