a personal question about your e-rings.

Ok, so this will probably sound a little materialistic and self centered i'm sure. i'm not trying to come off this way because it really isn't like that. for brides and brides to be out there that have diamonds on the "smaller" side, do you ever have moments where you feel really self concious about your engagement ring? I have a ring with a brilliant center stone somewhere around .35 carats. its a gorgeous stone and it takes my breath away all the time, but when i'm on different wedding sites i always notice the fact that its a little bit more rare to see rings similar in size to mine. i wouldn't change my ring and i don't want a new one. it just makes me wonder what everyone else thinks when they see it. a friend of mine who lives right in town and is the exact same age has a 1.24ct princess cut that cost her fiance 10 grand! granted it was his life savings, but its what he chose to spend it on. either way, i have had these moments of silly insecurity for a while and i'm cont...

@ Silhouette, thank you very much! I love it! Smiley laugh

@ Jaime, thank you! They have really nice rings at pawn shops. We went to one a while back & I was like, "WOW! We should've came here to get my rings!" I'd confront your sister & explain to her that regardless of where it came from or how big the diamond is, you love it & that's all that matters.

We bought our diamond online on a site that lets you choose based not only on carat but also on color, cut, clarity, etc. I didn't want a huge stone - but I did want it to be beautiful. I love it, the quality is almost perfect - very clear, no inclusions, perfectly cut. I'll admit I'm a little materialistic, but quality was much more important than size.

@STB, I know right? haha. we had been to every jewelry store under the sun before we stopped at the pawn shop. I was so frustrated with getting jerked around by jewelers working on commission. one guy actually made a DEAL with us to give me a .30 princess cut solitaire with i think a j color and a MASSIVE black inclusion in it for $900.00. I was extremely depressed by that. When we found my ring there was also a little over a half carat princess cut solitaire that only had a lil bit of color and was slightly included (but still very impressive) for only $300.00.

I know we got a good diamond though. we had been to so many jewelry stores that we actually knew what the hell we were looking at by that point. my stone only has one feather and is on the high end of nearly colorless. shane company thought it was one of theirs Smiley smile

My ring is small too...but i really wanted that...my only request...is that i wanted pink in it somehow! I have a little (well really HUGE) obsession with the color pink! Smiley smile

So he picked out a beautiful ring with a small diamond in the middle and pink stones w/ diamonds on the sides!

The ring he got you was a symbol of his loveSmiley smile

People are in different phases of life. We spent what we had in CASH for my ring (didn't want to rack up debt.) And granted, we could have easily afforded more, but we both found it ridiculous to spend more than what we did on my ring. He told me he would pay equal amount for my e-ring as my wedding band. I ended up declining the wedding band offer because I wanted the 3k for our bathroom remodel! LOL. Don't let it get to you!!!

My ring is GORGEOUS.. its almost 3/4 of a carat, but its an art deco engagement ring so its super old but yet beautiful.. My grandmother has made snarky comments saying she's going to give me diamonds for my ring to make my ring bigger.. FH says he'll buy me another ring (i picked my ring off of ebay for $400 bucks and I love love love it) but i told him he's silly and maybe for our 5/10 year anniversary he can upgrade it but i love my ring..

Mine is inherited, so it is MUCH more than we could have ever spent on one ring. We were lucky and I got to design my setting b/c of that. I have had people say rude things, but it is only those who are strangers to me. It got under my skin for a minute or two, but I say screw them! I love my ring and so do you! The rest doesn't matter. Enjoy it and ogle as much as you want. Smiley winking

It's rude of these people but they are unthinking and have no manners. Don't let it get to you. Size really doesn't matter. It's all relative. Among my more materialistic acquaintances and family, 1 carat is puny and 2 carats is more to their liking. Then a lot of people who are much more conservative and practical with their money think that 1 carat is way too big and silly. It's how you view it.

Don't let others judgments cloud your own. Yours is the most impt since you are the one wearing it.

Honestly I told FS if he proposed with a huge diamond, I would say no lol. I really didnt want anything big and flashy, Id rather a small. My E ring is just the right size, but with the band its even a little bit much for me. The Ering is 1/3 carrot and all together with the band its only 1/2 but it looks like more!!

If you love your ring, then you love your ring. No matter what size it is. My ring is not huge. its under 1 carat. it looks like more with the diamonds on the band but who cares. I love my ring and thats all the matters. Embrace your ring and tell anyone who has a problem with your ring to F off. oh and the "cute" thing drives e crazy too!

The ring doesn't matter its the love yall have for one another. My FH has been married before and he actually had that EXACT ring that Sara W. posted, but gold. It meant so much to him for us to have a RING to announce our engagement so I said ok fine, then give me your exes. She was the curse, not the ring! LOL But we were able to get a small percentage towards our new purchase so now I have my own ring, enhancer and his ring all for the price of that Bozo's!! And I down graded cause I don't really want anything on my finger that is worth more then my car!!! So be proud of what you got and when some arshole makes a mean comment just move it to your middle finger and smile and say well i LOVE IT!!!

"Honestly I told FS if he proposed with a huge diamond, I would say no lol."

Same here. I told him if he proposed with a diamond, I'd say no. My ring is moissanite and cost less than $500. No one has really said anything but my mom did give me a sideways look about it.

A few years ago, a friend told me she regretted letting her husband get her a big, expensive ring. She would have rather had the money to spend on other things. I never forgot that and I figure if I change my mind, we can always get another one later. You can't really return it once you buy it.

If YOU love your ring, you're set. Smiley smile I am very much a jewelry lover, so my FH planned my ring accordingly. I don't give a flip what anyone else thinks about it, and have gotten snotty comments myself (ie "Is that even real?" and "Think of how much you could have paid off a house with that money."). People will find a reason to criticize no matter what - too big or too small, too tall or too short, too cheap or too expensive! If YOU aren't happy, by all means consider an upgrade. But when it comes to what other people think - don't sweat it! Smiley smile

I do understand how you feel. Mine is less than a carat. I can't remember the exact size. I told FS I would prefer he spend the money on a house than getting me a huge ring. We both agreed we can always upgrade later on in life. Now we have an adorable starter house, I have an engagement ring and we are getting married in Nov. In the grand scheme of things the size of my ring doesn't matter. :-)

I hate big rings and big diamonds. I love my ring, I love that its small. I have small hands and a big diamond would make my hand look smaller, lol.

Most people don't even realize that mine is an engagement ring because I refuse to have a diamond solitaire! I told him that I wanted a sapphire and that is what I got! I'm looking at getting a wedding set, but my center stone will always be my sapphire, its so bright and blue and lovely. ( If you can't tell, I love my ring!)

My ring is a half carat...I am obsessed with HUGE...and this isn't, but this is what my Mr Right picked out and what fit his budget right now in his life. I'm ok with it...because this isn't my first marriage...and I've had 1.25 carat..and you know what? The size of the diamond didn't keep us together....
