In the process of saving pics from social media to do my non-pro BAM and came across this lovely idea from a wedding one of my friends was in yesterday: they auctioned off the garter and made over $1000. In the process of saving pics from social media to do my non-pro BAM and came across this lovely idea from a wedding one of my friends was in yesterday: they auctioned off the garter and made over $1000. I have never heard of such a thing, but maybe I'm out of the loop on tacky ideas. This is taking dollar dances and cake smashing money jars to a whole new level!

P.S. Between graduation and moving and the wedding, I've been MIA for the last three weeks. Missed you ladies!

    We're not doing the garter toss. My FH doesn't want to, though he didn't specify a reason. I'm okay with this, though I do have a few disappointed bridesmaids! Honestly, I can't imagine anyone wanting to catch mine in the first place.

    I was recently at a wedding that did this. It seemed pretty strange and awkward. The bride got like $150, and then the groom auctioned off his tie and got $50. I had never seen anything like it before. I hope I don't again. Super awkward....

    Literally the ONLY reason I could think of that this would be okay is if they were giving the money to charity. Maybe she was really famous and that's why they wanted it?

    They auctioned it off at the reception, or after the fact, like on eBay? Because yeah, there is a niche market for used items like that, especially shoes on eBay. Or was it just a pervy family member?!

    I was at a wedding where they did a garter auction. The groom's 9 year old brother ended up winning because he was being funded by older relatives. Everyone thought it was cute, I thought it was weird.
