WARNING:THIS IS A VERY SERIOUS SENSITIVE TOPIC

Back in 2018 a man by the name of Frederick Cunning was forced to make a heartbreaking decision when his wife had complications during her pregnancy. The wife was hemorrhaging horribly and doctors only had time to either perform surgery on her or save the baby.
Ultimately Frederick chose to save his baby daughter and his wife only lived long enough to see photos of the baby before she passed away.

The public was mixed on this situation with some saying he couldn't have loved his wife since he let her die for the baby whom he hadn't built a relationship with yet while others supported his decision saying that if the surgery with the wife went bad he could have lost them both.

Would you want your spouse to save you or your child? Have you and your spouse discussed situations like this?

P.S. this is a no judgement zone so please be respectful in the comment section.

I would want to be saved. We can always make another baby, we can't make another me. In addition to this, FH is a T1D and does not take the best care of himself. I would not want him to be left as a single father. I know he'd have help from our families, but he's already practically working himself to death now as it is.

We haven't talked about this, but I think it would be really dependent on if it happened and I already had children or not. If I already had kids, there's no way I'd want him to make the choice to leave our kids without a mother. If it was my first pregnancy, save the child.

Haha yep! I asked my fiance and he said "you of course" and I was like "thanks that's good to know"

Hey Trista, I was just curious about why your answer is different if you had children beforehand or if it was your first child?

If I already have children, then they will have to go through the pain of losing their mother. They would feel alone. The child that wouldn't have made it wouldn't have lived yet, and wouldn't really know the difference, as sad as that is. If I didn't have kids, I would want to do anything I can to protect the one I do. Maybe my answer will change when I have kids but right now, I wouldn't want to abandon the ones that need their mother.

That's a great question! Probably whenever I become pregnant.

We haven't had this exact conversation, but we have talked about how our future children are the number one priority when the time comes. My FH biggest dream is to be a father. I'm not sure if he could actually bring himself to make the decision to potentially end my life in that moment, but as a hypothetical situation I would want him to save the baby over me.

Your response reminded me of another discussion that I wanted to create "Who Comes First, Your Spouse or Your Children?"

    I understand your perspective.

I don't know if we will. I feel like he needs to be able to make decisions based on the medical information available.

I haven't gotten pregnant (yet?) but my husband and I had this conversation. We came to the conclusion that if it came down to a choice, he should choose me.
