75% of dresses are strapless. But I want straps!

Maggie Sottero's Ascher was the last of 15 dresses that I tried on today and I INSTANTLY fell in love. I didn't jump the gun, though. It's strapless, and I want straps! I think they flatter me more. Do you girls think that detailed, lace straps could be added on properly, and look pretty? They...

Do you girls think that detailed, lace straps could be added on properly, and look pretty? They wouldn't be too thick.

I am not sure if this will be the dress I end up purchasing, but I would still like to know for future reference. Thank you in advance, ladies!

If you haven't already, check out Pronovias dresses. They have a few similar styles like the one you like that do have straps. I tried on one with straps (can't remember style #) but would have been my pick over the one I went with if I wasn't to short. (I would have lost most of the bottom of that dress details with hemming it to fit me.)

I'm sure you can make that dress work or find one that has exactly what you are looking for!

Thanks, ya'll! I felt so confident in it Smiley smile My first day dress shopping was such an eye-opener. I've been beating myself up about having to lose 20 pounds by the wedding, but after the visit I feel beautiful just the way I am! I think that is the most important thing.

@GameCox, I told the consultants straight up that I am most partial to Essence of Australia gowns. There's just something about them! I think they are so unique and beautiful.

Thanks @Deborah! I appreciate the honesty. I guess the only way I'll be able to find out is if I have them order straps. But I'd have to purchase the dress first, wouldn't I?

@FutureMrsPichon - I actually did try on the dresses in those pictures, but they just didn't look right on me. Smiley sad I wish I could combine them all together, and keep the shape of the Ascher!

Thanks @Moria! I'll definitely keep it in mind! Smiley smile I'll have to ask to try on some Pronovias at my next visit.

Thank you @FutureMrsH! I plan on trying more dresses on, but if my mind keeps on coming back to this one, I'll probably purchase it Smiley smile

    Another tip -

Go to a great local seamstress instead of the bridal shop you're buying the dress from. If they are good, they will first mock up a muslin "pattern" of what you want with the bodice, straps. This is how they will perfectly blend the back for you.

Then, when they alter bring up the dress (did you know that they do this at the waist, not bottom, on wedding dresses?) they will use that extra fabric to make the straps. It would surprise me if you actually need extra!

It's crazy. I'm headed to my FOURTH fitting just for rebuilding the bodice of my dress. This is with a great local seamstress. My girlfriend getting it done at the bridal shop gets ONE fitting and is paying almost twice the price. Yelp is your friend, and WW too. I have not been disappointed with a vendor I found on either yet.

You should look into Mori Lees spring 2014 line. Gorgeous dresses with straps and beautiful backs!

Thanks, @Abby! Great advice. I'm starting to wonder if getting a dress custom made for me will be an option.

@MrsChanelNewNew - Just scrolled through pics. They're gorg! I'll have to make sure I try one on on my next shopping trip. Thanks!

Lovin' all of this input, ladies.

I just love the lace detail and subtle blush color showing through the layers of tulle!

I think you can add them and it'll look lovely.

I understand the need for straps, I'm a 36DDD, strapless was never even an option for me!

Oh! I love the close up of the dress, it's stunning! What a cool and subtle way to have that blush look. I vote that dress with added straps. A seamstress will be able to go over they different strap options you have. Smiley smile

I think that dress would look good with straps, but because it doesn't have the plunging back I would want a thinner strap (not a spaghetti, just not super thick) so it doesn't look to bulky in the back.

Oh thank you girls! Smiley smile You're making me blush. So sweet! I LOVE this dress, but promised myself I would not be impulsive and commit to a dress on my first day shopping. I can't stop thinking about it, though! And I cried when I tried it on Smiley smile
