The first thing that everyone should do is figure out their budget, then make their guest list and find a venue that they can afford on their budget.

Two very good friends of mine planned very different weddings with each of them taking only three months to do the entire planning process. Six months is plenty of time.

I got engaged in September and I'm getting married in 2 weeks. I'd say first thing is figure out budget, how many people and book your venue. Then I'd move onto-florist, photographer and videographer (if having one). All the "big" stuff only took me around a month. My last piece of advice is to do any of the little things early. I'm still scrambling to get things done and wish i didn't procrastinate so i could enjoy this time Smiley smile

You can do it! Just stay organized and on track.

You need to set a budget, draft a guest list, and find a venue asap.

Once you have these 3 things, you can start searching for the rest of your vendors. Good luck!

Budget and guest lists. Most venues will be booked for that month, so you may need to be creative. Good luck.

We're doing ours in 6 months. Figure out your budget and guest list, then go look at venues. Once your venue is booked, start with photographer and caterer and work your way through the rest of your vendors. I still have 2.5 months until our wedding and I'm basically done with everything that can be done in advance.

Go dress shopping ASAP! David's Bridal is one of your best bets for getting a dress fast. I ordered mine end of January and it was in mid February!

ETA: the Knot Wedding Planner Binder has been my bff. It has a 6 month engagement timeline (which was hard to find!) and it has really kept me on track.

I've planned it in 5. We got engaged the end of January and we get married June 10th. I don't think I could have handled a long wait! We did a budget, then a starting guest list, then picked a theme. Then I went online and ordered everything. I would recommend holding off on the ordering. I've found that now I've got to go back and order more. If I had waited I would have had a more accurate count. I'm going nuts now because there's nothing I can do until it's closer.

Your biggest problem may be finding a venue/vendors that are still available. Good luck!

Thanks girls! I have a venue booked already and I'll be going dress shopping May 13th that's when my mom will be in town. The hard thing for me is a photographer. I've ask three already and their booked. The others are vastly out of my price range.

October is the most popular month to get married. Make sure everything you want is available as soon as you set a budget!

I agree that you may struggle to find vendors. That is an incredibly popular weekend.

We're getting married the day before you are planning for, and we've had all our vendors booked for months. You may not have a lot of choice.

You might have better luck with vendors if you choose a Friday or Sunday.

Be persistent! We had some trouble finding vendors for that weekend when we started planning in December. I had to contact probably 10-15 photographers until I found one that was available and in our price range and we loved. But it's definitely possible!

Everyone else has pretty much covered everything. Organization and keeping an eye on your budget are pretty much key at this point.

It's awesome that you've already got your venue! That's a major step in the right direction. Your photographer situation, you may end up having to go a little over budget (I wouldn't step too far over) in order to secure someone since October is such a busy month! We've had a few extra months to plan (just started in January) and struggled to secure a venue. Most of the ones that we were really hooked on via websites had already been booked for our date. Now, after only 3 months of planning, we've pretty much got everything except for his tux (which we were advised that we don't need to do until around August) and my fittings. Excited about having our planning out of the way and not having to worry about anymore stress until the day of.

I planned mine in 7 months. I had all the big stuff done in the first two. Use the ww checklist and you should be fine.

Engaged in Jan and wedding in July. Totally doable but stay flexible! Like others have posted: budget, venue, dress, guest list. Don't bother with small stuff if you don't have time. We are having about 60-70 guests and I think bigger than that would be a real crunch in 6 months.
