5 months too late to send Save The Dates?

Marie, on March 8, 2013 at 8:34 PM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 3

The earliest I could book my engagement photos was the end of this month, and by the time the photographer edits it, and I am able to design the postcards and get it shipped to my house it will be about 5 months before the wedding date.. my wedding is Sept 15 and I'd probably mail it out mid-April.. We have quite a few out of town guests we plan to invite.. Is that too late to send the save the dates?

I think it's fine for in town guests, but for OOT guests, it might be helpful to give them more notice. Can you perhaps ask your photographer to work on just a couple (maybe 3) great shots that they can get to you faster via email to use specifically for your STDs?

Or would you mind sending out the STDs without a picture, just text and the info?

This is a great question! I'll be looking forward to the responses. I just finalized my guest list for July 28. I have a few (no more that 10) family members that will have to travel for the wedding. I'm at this very moment working on an electronic save the date, because I would love for them to be here. I'm going to use an old picture of us, unless my photographer can take a few quick pics next week. :/

I think it's fine. I sent mine 5 months out for a destination wedding.

I ordered my save the dates through Walmart's photo department and they were ready in an hour. Some of the Walmarts even give you nice envelopes with silver foil lining inside, but one gave me some crappy recycled paper envelopes that said Walmart on it (so I'd call and ask what envelopes they give out at that particular Walmart if you go that route)
