41 days out and no caterer now!

JENN, on March 8, 2020 at 8:16 PM Posted in Wedding Reception 0 9

Our catering company's building unfortunately burned down this weekend. First and foremost, everyone is okay. They are suffering a terrible loss for themselves and their employees and we feel for them and their families. Its through no fault of their own, of course, and having to replace our catering is a minimal task in comparison with all they are now dealing with.

However, we are 41 days out and now are starting over and already had the proper amount budgeted for our original caterer, so now we are scrambling to find something else that fits in the budget and feeds 65-75 people for under 1k. Buffet style is perfectly fine. Any ideas besides bbq? Are fajitas/fajita tacos okay or would you be displeased with this as a guest in nicer attire?

We cannot self-cook at our venue. So that option is out. They also charge extra for any catering use of the kitchen, this wasnt going to be an issue with our original caterer as it was a restaurant and all they had to do was drop off.

Everything was running amazingly smoothly up until now.

Thanks guys!

I think tacos are fine as long as you’re not having a formal event. Italian is typically pretty inexpensive as well.

I think fajitas/taco bar is perfect! Who doesn’t love tacos???? Even if it’s formal I don’t think anyone would complain about a taco bar.

Can your original catering company not recommend someone or give you a refund or a discount at another company. Are they reimbursing you in anyway. This is such an unfortunate situation.

Yeah, I would definitely see if they could recommend another company for the inconvenience and offer a discount.

Thank you! This is kinda where I am leaning, but while our wedding isnt formal formal, its on the nicer side, so I cant decide.

Depending on your location, I'd start calling/emailing your chain options for drop-off catering -- Chipotle, Olive Garden, etc. Sometimes local places are also awesome. For birthday parties we've ordered great drop off catering from Greek fast casuals (Daphne's, if you have it) or BBQ (Wood Ranch). The good news is your numbers aren't huge and you're good with drop off. Many of those kinds of options are fine with orders placed on a relatively short time frame! Good luck! Smiley heart

Oh no! I’m so sorry for everyone involved. Yes, your loss thankfully isn’t as severe as theirs but it’s still a loss and you have every right to be upset. A taco/fajita bar sounds great!

Fajitas would be great. Guests are just happy to share your day and should not be upset by your hospitality. Most restaurants cater so call up places for price quotes.
