40 Year Old First Time Bride- Invitation Wording

Cheryl, on March 23, 2012 at 8:57 AM Posted in Etiquette and Advice 0 12

Good morning,

Need your opinion- I'll be 40 by the time my wedding gets here and it will be my first time. Considering my age, I don't know if the typical invitation wording would be appropriate for me. My mom wants the invitations to look like this:

Mr. and Mrs. Name requests the honor of your presence.....

Am I too old to have that kind of wording? Meaning having the parents requesting the presence?

IMO I think you should still word it that way, yes but it's clearly up to you.

I don't think age really matters. If you want a slightly different wording, you could put: "together with their parents." I'm 40 and that's how we worded ours. Even though we are both older, our parents are still important parts of our wedding. But they aren't paying, so they are not listed on the invite as such. Hope that helps! =)

I don't think age matters, but I do understand how you feel, we are using something similar to this example....

In the spirit of Christian joy

    Ms.

    and

    Mr.

will vow their lives to one another forever

on Saturday, the sixth of October

    Two thousand and twelve

at 2:00 o'clock in the afternoon

Their families invite you to join them

in asking God's blessing upon this holy union

if you like the way your mom wants~you should go for it.

there is nothing wrong marry late.

Finding the right Mr. is more important.

Thank you so much. I like the way my mom wants it to read because they are paying for the whole thing. Guess I'm just self-conscious since I'll be 40 when I get married.

Thanks again. I feel better now. Smiley smile

Cheryl, no need to be self-conscious about your age and getting married, I am 51 years old, I will be 52 when I marry (for the 1st time). I love the fact that I waited so long. Plus you are not 40 years old, you are 40 years young!!! Smiley smile

Yes, you're ok doing it that way. I believe it should be that way if they are hosting/paying for it.

BTW, we are hosting our own, so we added "together with their families" to ours.

I think that would be fine! i am 30 & this will be my first time being a bride , we are having a small ceremony, we only invited our parents, BUT if we were sending out invitations to everyone i would want it worded like "Mr. and Mrs. (my parents) requests the honor of your presence" it's your special day & after all, you still are their little girl... even if you are 40 Smiley smile
