$320 of alterations later and the dress is hemmed too short :x

Amanda, on September 1, 2015 at 7:24 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 17

SUPER frustrated with the in house alterations department where I found my dress!!! It's been such a gong show! Where to start?!!

After the initial fitting, which I did wearing my planned wedding heels, I paid the fees to do the work needed. I set a second appointment for the 25th at 7pm. We show up on that day at that time and the salon is closed. I banged and no one answered the door. So, big waste of moh, my mom and my time. I call the next day and the seamstress said to call next time (which I attempted to do but their phone # is not online anywhere and I was never given the number). I made an appointment for the following Friday at 7 pm. No one was able to make it so I went alone. Get there at 7 and call. The lady on the other end told me that my seamstress was not there and I had to come back tomorrow. I said no, that I am here now and want my dress. That I don't have the time to play these games and will take my dress elsewhere if further alterations are needed (I was so mad)

The seamstress there tried to call my seamstress but couldn't get a hold of her. I waited about 20 mins and she couldn't find my dress!!! So, I started looking myself and found it. I slipped it on, put on my heels, and instantly noticed that it seemed short. The seamstress said it's because my heels are high. I explained that I was wearing them when I was measured!!! She then said it's not too short, that it's just fine. blah blah blah. I bagged up my dress and brought it home.

Today my moh and a bm came over to check it out. I put it all back on, and, sure enough, the dang dress was hemmed too short!!!!! I'm not being crazy of fussy or bridezillaish (which is what I thought may be the case) So now with 5 days to go, I have to find the time to track down another pair of lower heels. Even though I LOVE the ones I have. So sad. And angry. ugh. I will be calling the bridal salon (possibly tomorrow) but seriously cannot begin to deal with it until I cool down. Thanks for the vent ww ladies!!! I am just so annoyed atm!

Wow, that's ridiculous. You should try to get some of your money refunded. Not only was the quality of their alterations poor but they also have shown their complete lack of customer service.

Kmess - I totally am going to attempt to get some sort of refund! I'm out the money I had spent on my shoes because the shop I bought them from does not do exchanges or refunds. Plus my time, which, 5 days before my wedding, is costly!!! @Nicole - The hard part of that is that the shop is fabulous!!! The alterations department, not so much!!!

The worst part is they won't even admit their mistake. I'm far more forgiving when the person is accountable and tries to fix it.

It was Helene's winnipegwriter. I have to admit, I was extremely happy with the salon staff and service! I didn't have a single complaint until I used their alterations department :/

If you bought the dress from the salon that did the work I would be asking for a complete refund. You might only get a partial one, but I would start out asking for full personally. They wasted your time which is valuable, wasted your gas traveling back and forth (don't know how far you had to drive but for me that many trips to my alterations place would be a couple tanks at least), and made you have to buy new shoes which now won't be broken in. Did people have to take time off work? I would be very tempted to threaten to take them to small claims court. I'm not one to jump to that but after everything I went through with my own dress I am sick of places taking advantage of brides.

OMG this is horrible!! Did all of this happen last Friday? Have they called you since to follow up or anything???

I also got mine there and nothing like that happened to me... they were always on time and the alterations were fine. My hem was also a bit shorter, but she did offer to fix it on the spot and I said to leave it like that. I'm so sorry you had such a horrible experience Smiley sad they don't even have the excuse of it being prom season or high wedding season - summer weddings are over!

@VC yes it all happened Friday. I confirmed it's too short yesterday. It's really not that big of a deal; just need new shoes. I may get yours from Payless actually but in red though. No one has called. I'm calling Helene's today. My blood stopped brewing lol they need to know what's happening down in alterations!

I feel ya Amanda, my dress came in too short, and alterations kept telling me they could add inches. Wearing heels was a non-negotiable for me, as many bridesmaids are over 6 foot and my husband is 6'5'', and even without heels it wasn't touching the ground. I hope you can find some shoes that you're happy with- so frustrating that you've done so much to prepare and now this happens.

Thanks Emily. As annoyed as I am, finding a new shoe isn't that terrible. Just horrible timing!! I saw your bam and didn't think for a second that your dress was anything but perfect!

Steam your dress. I heard a person talking about how they once steamed their dress and it made it too long. If it's just a tiny bit too short, you might be able to get a bit more length if you steam the dress Smiley smile

However, I would be calling and asking to speak with a manager about the difficulties you had as well as asking for a refund.

@Amanda No, I stayed clear of that place because I had heard too many horror stories. Sorry to hear you're one of them Smiley sad
