2nd Dress for wedding reception or exit?

Stacy, on March 6, 2019 at 1:43 PM Posted in Wedding Attire 0 14
My dress is very big and heavy. My mom thinks I should get a second dress for dancing and the exit. Is anyone else doing this? Where did you find it?

My dress is just as big as yours, but I plan to wear it all night. I spent way too much money on it to only wear it for 30 minutes, lol. However, a second dress isn't unheard of. To each their own. Good luck with your search. Have you checked out Amazon? You might surprisingly find some really nice and affordable options.

Yes, I agree. I was only thinking about buying something for maybe dancing and my exit. But even then I don’t know if I want to spend the extra money. However, I have to be in my dress by 2:15, wedding at 5:30, reception 7-11, could be a long day in that big dress! I don’t know. I’m very torn.

I am having a second dress for the reasons you mentioned. I am getting married in a church than a different location for the reception with two very different vibes. First dress is a ballgown with a cathedral length train and full sleeves, the second dress has sleeves, but is a simple backless sheath. I have a timeline that is very similar to yours, if not longer due to an after party, so it's a long time to be in such a heavy dress that is not easy to dance in. I have friends/family from other cultures where changing dresses/multiple ceremonies is common, so that's probably why I wanted 2 dresses. There are so many low cost awesome dresses out there and it definitely doesn't have to be another wedding gown per se just a white/cream evening gown. Whatever you choose, I know you'll look amazing!

    That's a gorgeous dress!

Mine is extremely heavy as well, but I am taking full advantage. I'll never have another opportunity to wear this dress again, so I'm staying in it as long as possible.

What style are you thinking about for you second dress?

I was thinking one of these. But I’ve already spent so much on the dress, alterations, etc I’m not sure.

Your dress isn’t too big for dancing. Once you bustle it you’ll be fine. It’s exquisite. Why would you want to take it off? You only get to be a bride for one day. Live it up.

I agree with this! You're sinking a good amount of money into a dress that you clearly love (and it's gorgeous, btw!) so why not get all of the use you can out of it! I also agree that once the dress is bustled, it does make a huge difference. My dress had a heavy-ish skirt and a bit of a train, and it was a mermaid, so I was also worried about the whole moving around at the reception thing. But once that bustle went in and my bridesmaids helped me get it together at the reception, it was amazing the difference!

If you're really wanting a second dress just to party in - try just looking for a formal dress at an upscale department store (think Nordstroms, Macy's, etc.) so you don't have to blow your budget on a second dress.

Thanks so much everyone! I do love my dress and I’m so excited to wear it. I think I’m just in my own head and didn’t even think about purchasing a second dress until my mom said something about it! I think I’m just going to stick with the one!

You only get one day to wear your dress so make the most of it! I would say no to a second dress!

Here is my second dress I didn’t want to spend too much since I paid so much on the first dress ... I will not be holding that heavy gown all night ...

My dress is big and elaborate - but I don’t want a different dress because I love mine so much. I’m just doing a three point bustle.
