250 guests going through a buffet line

We have 130 guests (yes i know a lot less then you) but our venue is buffet style too only 1 line. We will have people be excused by tables so its not a long line. I would go with what others suggested... 2 lines 2 sides you will have a faster moving buffet!

We are having salad served at the tables so that those who are waiting on their table to be called have something to munch on. That might be an option. Of course, you have 2 double sided lines as well. Put the drinks away from the food also so that doesn't cause congestion.

Don't mean to brag, but I've been to over 400 weddings and seen it all... I would stay away from calling out the tables. Sometimes people miss their call (at the bathroom, outside smoking, distracted at another table, or forgot what table # they were sitting at). And some people just want to dance all day... while others want to sit all night. And a few want to eat and eat... Just let people go when they feel like going. It does go pretty quick. You'd be surprised. Those who want to stay in line will get up, others will wait for it to get shorter... and plays itself out organically.

My daughters reception was attended by 130, or so, guests. It was a buffet and the DJ called table numbers. It went very quickly and well.

It was the only thing that damned DJ did right. The only part of the wedding we let my (now) son-in-law handle. He hired a friend (supposedly a pro) and the guy sucked! Should have let me book someone. Oh well. LOL!

PS....we also had appetizers in another area of the room. So, guests had food, before the FOOD. LOL!!!

Thats the same problem im having well thinking I have lol =/ I was thinking even making either 4 lines or just having a minimum of 10 ppl per line so it wont get creowded.... and have entertainment mean while im having a live band =)

My reception venue suggests that if you invite that many people for a buffet, you should stagger the invitations, i.e. invite one group at 7:00, one at 7:30, and one at 8:00.

Were having a buffet and having around 250 guests too. We're having servers and two lines, so I think it'll help speed things up.
